CD Projekt has announced the release of a new patch for the Mac version of The Witcher: Enhanced Edition Director's Cut. Version 1.6.2 bundles the previous fixes made available in the 1.6.1 patch with an updated compatibility for Apple's Lion and Mountain Lion. Based on the writings of Polish author Andrzej Sapkowski, the fantasy RPG follows the exploits of The Witcher, a monster slayer known as Geralt. Players must make difficult decisions in a world of gray areas as they struggle against forces bent on taking control of the world.

Changes in version 1.6.2 (10th Oct. 2012)

  • The compatibility layer software is upgraded to the latest version. In effect, the game can now be successfully launched on OS X Lion 10.7.5 and OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2.
Changes & fixes in version 1.6.1 (20th Sept. 2012)

  • Problems with memory allocation resulting in crashes and "Out of memory!" messages have been corrected resulting in stability in tests improving by 30% or even by 80% depending on the computer's components.
  • Major improvements have been introduced regarding the process of graphics effects' rendering.
  • Most of the issues with crashes occurring during locations' loading have been fixed.
  • Additionally, a small, yet noticeable performance improvement has been achieved, especially on older Macs.

so they really cannot just say Wineskin... they have to say "The compatibility layer software" ??

The funny thing is I got the Wineskin update out to fix the 10.8.2 and 10.7.5 problem *before* they released the 1.6.1 update... they should have held out a little bit and gotten all out in one update.  Guess I'm just not used to working slowly  :-)

Looks like a good update though, hopefully a lot more people will be able ot have fun playing the game!

Oddly enough I applied the Wineskin update when 1.6.1 was issued to get around the black screen of death forcing me to force shut down my computer, after reading this news I selected the app, chose Get Info... lo and behold, it states its already version 1.6.2?

I like it when developers take the extra effort to keep their games going as long as possible within reason (like, if they need a hobby or something).

It means less people demanding refunds for games they bought 5 years ago because they updated their Mac to the newest OSX.

this update didn't really add support for Lion and Mountain Lion.. the title is a bit misleading... it already had worked on Lion and Mountain Lion, it just broke in the 10.8.2 and 10.7.5 updates... 10.8.1 and 10.7.4 and older ran it fine.  The update was to fix a bug brought out by the 10.8.2 and 10.7.5 updates.

Thanks Apple! For yet another crap bug! I bet apple is like "its not our fault, its the fault of all the developers out there for using something in the libraries that we changed".

Apple cares very very little for backwards compatibility
