On the heels of unveiling its new HoN Tour tournament S2 Games has launched upgraded game clients for the Mac and Linux versions of Heroes of Newerth, seeking to entice more players to participate in the multiplayer online battle arena. Both client revamps include integration of the HoN in-game browser, Awesomium, and a new updater for overall improved performance.

“We have really been focusing on broadening our community recently, and on making our tournaments accessible to as many different types of players as possible,” said Marc DeForest, co-founder and CEO of S2 Games. “The combination of HoN Tour and these two new clients opens up Heroes of Newerth to a huge new community and we’re really looking forward to having them join the action.”

Unlike many other clients for Windows-developed games, the new HoN clients were designed specifically for Mac and Linux, and went through significant testing before launch to ensure high quality player experiences. The new Mac and Linux clients will offer players a gaming experience on par with the current Windows client, enabling gamers to compete on an equal playing field both in and out of tournaments. The new Mac and Linux clients feature Awesomium integration, which includes HoN’s in-game web browser, used to connect players to HoNTV, game guides, and more. Both clients will also offer a new updater for faster patch downloads, and improved performance to a variety of other features.

The minimum system requirements for both clients are an Intel Processor, 1.5GB of RAM, a 128MB video card that is OpenGL 2.0 or GLSL 1.20 compliant, and an OS X 10.5 or later operating system.

Armed with their new clients, Mac and Linux players can register for HoN Tour individually or as teams of five or more at HoNTour.com. Registration for the HoN Tour Qualifier closes on October 17 at 11:59 pm EDT and the competition for over $300,000 begins on October 20.

Oh Good. Not really playing this anymore after 120 hours of Dota 2, (and 3 years of HoN) but really glad to hear you can use in the Hon TV and stuff now from in game. It always annoyed me I couldn't.
