So I just got a copy of Apple Remote Desktop 3.3 with Unlimited Clients for 2¢ from someone who had no clue what it was or what it was worth. Beyond that awesomeness, is what I can do with it. Given I have multiple machines, I should have picked this up ages ago!

Played a game of StarCraft 2 on a Quad G5, even though it requires Intel. Just because I can:

Attached File  SC2 PowerPC 2.jpg   166.98K   25 downloads

(Running over a FireWire 800 cable from my MBP)
Cypher (PowerMac G5 Quad) – 2x2.5 GHz PPC 970MP / 16GB ECC RAM / 1TB WDC Velociraptor, 2TB STX Constellation ES.2 / QuadroFX 4500 512MB
Chromium (MacBook Pro 08) – 2.6 GHz C2D T9500 / 4GB RAM / 750GB STX MomentusXT / GeForce 8600M GT 512MB
Antimony (PowerBook G4 Titanium) – 1.0 GHz PPC 7455 / 1GB RAM / 480GB OWC Mercury SSD / Radeon 9000 64MB

When there's a multiplayer version, I'm going to be on Frost's team. Well, except he doesn't seem to actually need a team...I mean, what's the point? "Hey look, it's Frost and His Merry Gang of Useless Hangers-On!" Or something.

I'm surprised FW800 has enough bandwith to handle streaming a game like that in real time. Looks awesome though.

It certainly didn't have the world's fastest framerate, but it was still actually playable, surprisingly. I was going to test it over gigabit ethernet but I didn't feel like configuring the MBP into my system just for the experiment.

I would be interested in the bitrate that you would be feeding the FW cable, as I thought it would be up to that. it probably doesn't compare properly, but I've found it transfers high definition data quite happily…full BD file films.

I like this idea. Free gaming for all of IMG, assuming at least one of us buys the game. We will also network all our computers into a supercomputer, and create some sort of rogue AI that will fight for world dominance during our gaming off hours.
