Overhaul Games recently started an AMAA (Ask Me Almost Anything) thread at Reddit for those interested in learning more about the company's upcoming Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition update of the classic RPG. In addition to a variety of informational tidbits, the developers also unveiled one of the game's new character portraits.

ThorThunderfist: You have said that modding should be simplified a bit with BG:EE. Are you planning on any sort of offical API or tools, or will it just be easier to do what is already being done? I am really looking forward to start modding this and seeing what I can come up with.

(How) Will mods work cross-platform?

OverhaulTrent: We're working with a number of the modders to open things up. The Infinity Engine is a little complicated in a number of areas which make modding difficult, but we're trying to make things better. I don't think it will ever be NWN easy to make a BG:EE mod.

Great question. We're still working on this. Rough plan is to have the community help us pick a small number of mods and try to get those working cross platform. Worst case, drag into iTunes. Best case, in-game mod menu.

Flin5: How mod friendly will the Mac version be? The Mac App Store isn't kind to anything that makes changes to the game itself. Will there be a mod folder of some sort?

OverhaulNathan: We're working on this, but yes we want the game to be mod friendly for sure. =)

Head over to the link below to read more. Overhaul has promised to keep answering questions today so join in if you have a question for the team.

This is the game of the year for me :) Slightly disappointed that the negotiations RE a boxed collectors edition failed. But managed to console myself by getting my grubby mitts on a copy of BG2 Collectors Edition still shrinkwrapped AND that turned out to be the personal copy of one of the original team who kindly autographed it for me so I can't complain :D

Also good to hear the specifics RE the new Blackguard Kit - I was curious what that would entail exactly.
