I bought Halo Combat Evolved for my Macbook
Question one: Does anyone out there have the full version? Because It would be nice to play with some other people from here and maybe make some machinimas!
Question two: Since the demo is free, does anyone have that? Because I kept the demo even when I got full version because there are a TON of mods for it on certain wiki pages, mainly other maps, like Elite Station, Sandtrap, The pit, Halo 2 bloodgulch, and some mods that make it like Halo 2, 3, ODST, and even Reach! Post here if you have any form of Halo for Mac!

I had the full version, but not sure where my copy/cd key went. That was a long time ago and several different computers away.

Haven't played in ages, hopping on the demo could be fun.

Yeah I loved this on my old Powerbook. Better then the Xbox version I think. But that being said the sequels are in a legue of their own. I think I'm in the same boat as Wumpus though. Would love to play it again.

Is this your first Halo experience?

The demo never made the Intel transition, or did it? I still have the full (UB) version around on one of my external hard drives, though.

No, the Demo never did.

I ended up using mine as a computer password, much like my Marathon 1 serial number before it. Marathon for my towers, Halo for my laptops. I tellya what, nobody will ever guess my passwords on those machines, and as an upside I'll never be at a loss if the Marathon 1 or Halo Mac "enter your serial number/CD key" window pops up. :D

No real need though, Marathon went open source and the Halo UB doesn't require a CD key or a disc in the drive. Go grab the UB!

One of these days I'll gather up the wherewithal to finish that stupid timed last level, where I have to drive a warthog over and through a bunch of arbitrarily placed geometric obstacles while grunts and elites come at me with enough guns and explosives to make FPSRussia blush.

One of these days.

Yeah, I completely know what you mean. I hate that last level myself. ...then again nearly any timed levels I have come across in games have been rather annoying.

I know what you mean about the last level, it's a real pain until you figure out which path to take in each room. Once you've got that, though, it really doesn't get much harder if you crank the difficulty up to Legendary.

My main annoyance with that level is actually that the timer makes it really inconvenient to explore and try crazy stuff.

I've beaten Halo several times, but that last part never really rang a bell as being difficult, even on Legendary. Not trying to sound like an ass, just can't recall it being an issue :P

Same here.  I think the difficulty might be mostly psychological ("OMG! Things are exploding!! And there's a timer!!!!!")...just try to ignore that stuff.

I think, I beat that level on the first try back then. It's really not that difficult: just keep going and floor it. I can't remember right now whether the time limit changes depending on the difficulty, but I usually had 30 seconds or more left at the end of the level.

Escape “The Maw” on Legendary with at least a minute left on the count down.

Yeah. It's doable. Even with the clock cut short on Legendary, and being forced to using a controller instead of a mouse. ;)

Pedal faster, and don't stop for anything! And remember the best way to deal with Elites in your path is to introduce them to the front bumper.

I'm not sure if the time decreases up through Heroic, but I know like a full minute or something gets shaved off on Legendary.

Yeah, that was my general strategy. Just floor it and go all Carmageddon on anyone who got in my way. I actually was going to make it my first time, too, until the level designers threw some stupid jump at me, which of course, I wasn't quite precisely lined up enough to make. I guess I wouldn't have made it if this were Hazzard County. ('dem Dukes! 'dem Dukes!...)

I wouldn't have minded it too, except for the timer. I mean, why do they give me a timer *now* of all places? (I mean, I do know in terms of level design and shaping the gameplay experience.) There were dozens of times in the game where I was operating in circumstances where timing was of the essence, and now Cortana gives me a timer!? It just smacked of cheap tactics - like, cheap as in, "that-Tempus-Irae-map-where-they-spawn-major-fighters-and-hunters-behind-you" cheap.

I really wish that we could have gotten a better ending to Halo, either an epic battle like the final boss robot at the end of Descent (or the Battle of the Great Portal at the end of Avernum 6), or an epic sprawling level with beautiful and atmospheric architecture like Aye Mak Sicur in Marathon Infinity. Oh well. At least it wasn't as bad as the end boss of Elite Force...

I dunno, I thought it was pretty decent.  I got sick of "epic boss battles" at the end of games quite some time ago...clichéd and often annoying, since all too often you're tossed into a situation where you don't really get to use the skills you spent the last 20 hours or whatever building up.

*ugh* I just noticed that playing Halo on 22" screen is giving me quite a headache at the standard FOV (What is that? 60° or something?)...  :blarf: Any simple way to change that? My Google search only came up discussions ultimately referencing to the defunct Macologist forum.
