How does co-op work on the Mac? Do we get a split screen? Is some kind of co-op play possible on multiple computers at home here? It is a pretty good "family" game we'd all enjoy playing.
I am not a fan of split screen and I just suffer it on my console games.
In the "Adventure" category? It is hardly a violent game and yet I liken it to a Zork or Hitchhikers game. Or Myst perhaps. So I guess at Adventure.

The graphics look great in the Mac version, and performance is good too. I haven't seen the PS3 version so I can't comment on the differences.
The genre is more puzzle/FPS (since you do shoot portals), but yeah, whatever. It certainly has adventure elements. It's really only nonviolent in the sense that you can't harm other living things though; you can die in quite violent ways and you can do some pretty mean things to the turrets…

No split screen on the Mac/PC versions. You can have two players of course but they are on separate machines. I believe they can play coop against someone on the PS3 version though, so you wouldn't need a 2nd Mac/PC.
If you've been playing it for a week then you can probably answer your questions about what age group it is appropriate for. There are turrets (non-humanoid robots) that shoot bullets at you on some puzzles- loud and violent-sounding, but still bloodless. That's as violent as it gets really. And you never fire anything except the portal gun.
Measure twice, cut once, curse three or four times.

If still available, Steam let's you d/l the Mac version free with a registration code. I actually played most of it on my Mac.

I like how we can in general see exactly where we have to go, what we have to bounce off, whether we need to make a surface slippery, and so on and yet we still have to figure out how to go about it. Never had so much fun NOT killing stuff.
