ApexMods has announced a new beta version for Ghost Recon: Heroes Unleashed, a "ruthlessly realistic and unforgiving tactical shooter" expansion pack for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon. Among other things version 1.0.0b7 features 25 new maps, 50 new weapons, new game types, and improved enemy AI. Ghost Recon: Heroes Unleashed makes more than 150 maps available for single and multiplayer and offers over 250 weapons from which to choose.

What's new in this release (v1.0.0b7):

  • New and improved game types (over 100 total for SP/MP combined)
  • Non-campaign maps feature random missions (no simple firefights)
  • Heavily improved enemy AI in SP/COOP game types
  • Improved score system (e.g. better stealth/detection)
  • Slightly improved friendly AI
  • Better external ballistics with more realistic bullet penetration
  • 25 new maps, city/desert/jungle environments etc. (175 total)
  • Over 50 new weapons (e.g. DSR 1, Mk14 EBR, SG-552, WA 2000, KSVK)
  • Innovative new weapon zoom
  • Over 1,000 equipment kits
  • ACU uniforms and new accessories for Ghosts
  • New marksman character
  • Additional Ghost team soldier characters (new appearance)
  • Additional characters for opposing force, civilians, etc.
  • Reworked and streamlined multiplayer restrictions
  • New sound dynamics
  • New UI (menus, HUD, command map, PDA, etc.)
  • New intro video
  • Loads and loads of rebalancing, adjusting, fine tuning, retexturing
  • Better widescreen support
  • Better compatibility with 3rd party mods
  • Better stability and performance (especially on low-end hardware)
  • All reported bugs fixed
  • And much more...
While still in beta stage, the mod has matured considerably since its humble beginnings in 2008. Over 50,000 downloads show that the mod breathes new life into original Ghost Recon, the classic masterpiece many consider to be the best tactical shooter ever made.

This Unofficial expansion pack for Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon features over 150 maps, more than 250 weapons, tons of other new content, and is packed with ass-kicking realism and other gameplay improvements.

NOTE: Without Rosetta this will not work with a Mac OS X 10.7.x unless via a Virtual Machine running via 10.6.x

Sad, I was ready to dig up my old discs...

Wel, GR should work flawlessly with Wine. I'm just wondering whether the GOG.com version contains the expansions (which are required for Heroes Unleashed).

Is it possible that the MGS link for Ghost Recon is not working? I've tried to find the game in the store but I can't find it...
Is there a link that brings me to the right page in the MacGameStore?

Sincerely.

What link?

And no, Ghost Recon itself is not on the store (old game that does not have an officially supplied digital download version is my guess). MGS isn't in the habit of illegally selling games like gog.com does.

I wouldn't trust gog.com. Sketchy shady site that sells other people's work without giving royalties to original developers/publishers. They have no contracts to sell the software they do, and their system is horribly insecure. Their checkout form is even served from an insecure page with javascript where any man-in-the-middle attacks are the most probable. They are located in a 3rd world country as well where they can ignore all allegations and laws of the real world. I wouldn't trust my money with those guys at all. If anyone wants to ignore my concerns, fine, let them make their own mistakes. At least I have stated my concerns and my conscious is clear.

Carry on.

 Anything to substantiate these allegations?

Besides, I'm pretty sure the Cypriots would be rather pissed off to be called a "third-world country" (Cyprus is part of the EU and has a higher per capita GDP than New Zealand or Saudi Arabia...).

Between all the old games they got actual developers to talk about, press releases from major publishers that probably wouldn't go unnoticed by lawyers, and (more recently) newer and high-profile games that obviously aren't flying under anyone's radar, I really doubt Fridgidman could be right. Plus, they're only in the 'third world' if they're in Turkish-occupied Cyprus, and then only nominally because Turkey isn't quite a hellhole. It is warm, though, so that might be Frididman's true beef.

Just what I'm thinking. You would expect the original developers/distributors to complain about GOG – which doesn't seem to happen.

The address they give (at the bottom of this page) is in Larnaca, the independent part of Cyprus.

Yeah maybe so, but it's still warm there.
