While no one was looking, yet another lauded indie game was released for Mac: Bastion is available in the MAS right now, and coming to Steam next week.

"Gaming on a Mac is like women on the internet." — "Highly common and totally awesome?"

I saw that  too, though I was initially trying to see if they had Blades of Time for less than Steam...

Looks great!  What about Legendary Heroes?  That looks interesting too.  Anyone played it?

LH: Just looked at some gameplay footage--Heroes of Newerth *light*???

Bastion is utterly gorgeous, and with the world appearing as you walk about the way it does, it's got that extra visual twist to proceedings.

Then there's the narrator and the music. Everything's great.

Coming to SteamPlay soon too. So if you prefer that...

I played through the Chrome version, but bought the PC version during last Steam sale too so might replay the Mac version when I have the time.

Tried the PC demo of Bastion. Liked the music a lot and the style, but wasn't interested enough to buy it. A Mac version might tempt me though.

This is great. I was planning on buying the Windows version and bootcamping it. (Though I probably would have gotten it on Steam so no harm done.)

Note: many MAS reviewers are having problems on some MacBooks. The company is promising a fix, but it might pay to be patient. Check the customer reviews to see if your model is mentioned as working or not.

...one reviewer had a one month old i7 iMac with 16GB RAM experiencing this problem. Serious Same BFE is giving me Kernel Panics... I'm glad developers want to get into the Mac market but its like they're selecting the 'Compile for Mac' radio button and clicking Build and selling the beta builds.

Anyone know how it's ported? Cider port? It's a XNA-based game, so I had thought a native Mac version was impossible.

Anyways, I have the Steam version, so I'll be looking forward to trying out the mac version.

XNA uses .net and it's possible to compile it with Mono so that's what they may have done although I don't have this game yet so I can't be sure if that's what they did or if they wrapped it. They use Mono with Unity when porting it to the Mac too btw I have noticed.

Actually.. it looks like they may have used MonoGame to compile it.. take a look here: http://monogame.codeplex.com/

What's interesting is only the iOS version supports gamepads.

Unity only uses Mono regardless, and it's not ported to the Mac, it's ported from the Mac.  For a change.

Just clarifying things.  Not sure why it would have to make a difference to what you were saying.

It's the opposite? :-)

Joking aside, your original wording made it sound like Mono was added later as a way to port Unity (implying that Unity was originally written in Microsoft's .NET.) But Unity has always been written in Mono.

It's written in C++.  ;)  It uses Mono though.

You're right of course. As I understand it a fair amount of the editor is written in Mono using their own Unity GUI API, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. Thanks for the reminder.

Well the point is they used Mono to compile Bastion for the Mac. Specifically MonoGame which is used to compile an XNA game for other platforms other than Windows.

Good info; thanks.

Bought it a couple days ago but I haven't had time to actually try it. Hopefully I'll get to it next week..

At 60% off there's really no reason NOT to get this. The soundtrack edition is also discounted, but I bought the music ages ago. Good stuff.

Would have missed this if it wasn't for this thread, much appreciated. :)
