Soldak Entertainment has published more new information about features in the upcoming Drox Operative starship action RPG. The update this time offers details about the various kinds of weapons players will be able to install on their ships. Drox Operative will put players in the role of an elite starship captain and will feature warring alien races, fierce space battles, a dynamic and evolving galaxy, and co-op multiplayer.

Ballistic weapons fire a small, physical object at very high speeds (think railgun). Beam weapons fire some kind of particle beam (like a laser). Bomb weapons launch a bomb directly to the specified point in space and explodes. Doomsday weapons are massive, one use weapons which are explained more here. EM weapons fire an electromagnetic pulse of various sorts that damages and causes lingering problems. Fighter bays launch fighters of course. Freezer weapons do damage, but at the same time are designed to impact the movement of the enemy in some way. Mine weapons launch mines. While mines lack enemy tracking, they makes up for it with power. Missile weapons fires missiles that track their targets. Virus weapons use various particle beams to do damage, but also upload a virus to disrupt the enemy's systems. Then there are various other weapons that don't fit into any category very well, things like Lightning Fields, Hellfire, and Big Bang.

All of these weapons types have different damage, speeds, and ranges like usual. Missiles do a lot of damage and have great range, but are slow. Beam weapons are fast, but they're not as powerful and their damage diminishes as the distance to the target increases. EM and virus weapons do less damage, but they also have powerful debuffs. Mines and bombs do a lot of damage because they forgo tracking for pure explosive power.

I hope my expectations for this game, are fulfilled.. Unfortunately, I think I'm just dreaming of another EV game, but with more features.

And now, time for some Legend of Zelda.

And this would be bad how? We get scads of fantasy based RPGs, why not more science fictional RPGs? What have we had since the Fallout games? Drox Operative is at least something for those of us more in tune with Star Trek/Wars than Lord of the Rings. And then there is this: http://www.ftlgame.com/

FTL is looking pretty meh to me. I read it got huge popularity, though I don't see how. Judging from the video its a game I'd never play. But to each their own.

I am as well dreaming of a better/newer EV via Drox Operative, and if that's all it turns out to be I certainly won't be disappointed. Or as long as its a good space/rpg game i'll be happy.
