I've made a ton of wineskin wrappers and took the time to test them thoroughly, The Porting Teams wine wrappers are heads and shoulders above what CDP, a professional developer has dumped on the Mac community, they should be held to task for it, especially by games "journalists" and not given a pass because it only costs $10.

I wish I had a suggestion for you. I am playing on an older MacPro (early 2009), with the latest version of Lion and a newer ATI 5770 Video card.
I posted this mainly because I felt the need to say, it works okay for me and it might for others. I get really annoyed when a game doesn't perform or just crashes all the time. So I really understand your frustration.

Still it does surprise me that its having so much trouble. It works for some people, and perhaps CDP is some of those people. Problems are widespread however and I had to fuss about in Wineskin with the help of doh123 and Smoke Tetsu just to get the game to run. If I was reviewing the game It would have to be a "not review" since technically speaking it wouldn't run without lots of WINE hacks that are beyond the knowledge of average users. Fortunately at least it works for Ted who has the review.
Its too bad, CDP was supposed to give us (IMG review staff) a preview build to look at or demo to write up a preview. That never happened and it went straight to being on Steamplay. I'm thinking a preview build would have uncovered some of these issues and they could have been reported before launching it on Mac. As they say, haste makes waste.

EDIT: Seems that download was a lot smaller... maybe under 2GB? It finished long before that 11.3GB number was reached and was ready to play... odd.

I just checked the app folder after the update. The game itself wasn't touched. All it did was either add or modify the "making of" movies, manual, and digital soundtrack. In other words, nothing useful.

Well unfortunately my enjoyment with The Witcher looks like it's come to a premature end. I was doing the "Lock and Key" quest in Chapter 3 when I literally found myself trapped in an area I can't exit from. I just killed the Salamander base and when I exit the base the Vincent/Werewolf cutscene sequence starts. This all ends one of two ways for me.
(1) At the end of the sequence the screen goes black for a a few seconds while I listen to the Werewolf tear Geralt apart then suddenly I see the you-are-dead-load-save-game dialog box.
(2) Or it just goes straight into the fight between Geralt and the Werewolf. I'm given no option to let him go or offer to find the cure. And at the end of the fight, when he morphs back into Vincent he attacks me no matter what so I have to kill him. I could live with this outcome just to get past this sequence and continue except I'm trapped in the alley where the fight took place! The only apparent way out is the door to the old forge but it's locked! And Googling seems to indicate that is the way out.
To make matters worse Siegfried is just standing there doing nothing for no apparent reason and when talking to him he just yells "Go!".
While we're on the subject I also appear to have run into another significant bug with the "Gold Rush" quest. I cannot enter the bank via the warehouse after I did everything I was suppose to. Like the other quest above I checked a walkthrough to make sure it wasn't something I missed so this also appears to be a bug. However in this case I just ignored it and moved on to others quests. I don't know if that would be a problem later on though. But "Lock and Key" clearly cannot be avoided so I'm definitely stuck.
These bugs don't appear to be Mac-only but they don't happen to everybody either. It's really a shame because I was really enjoying this game. There have been some occasional WINE-related crashes, which are annoying but manageable, however these other things are the last straw for me.
Anybody else experience these bugs?

Ugh I was afraid somebody would suggest that. Maybe after I take a break from this game for awhile I'll give that a try. Thanks.

But while I Was at Steam I noticed Portal 2. Now I am hoping that plays the same as the PS3 version. A really nice game.
