Not sure how many people here may have played the original version on Apple II, or Commodore 64, but I've heard good things about it. Gritty, bloody, destructive, etc. etc.

The Kickstarter page is now live, and is currently sitting at $383,749 (as of this post). It needs to reach $900,000 to go through - if it hits that amount, Brian Fargo has pledged to put up the remaining $100,000 to hit the $1M mark. All funds from Kickstarter, including anything over the goal amount, will go into the game.
The best bit of news on that page says if they hit $1.5M, a Mac OS version will be made! SO EXCITED. Wasteland, along with the Bard's Tale trilogy, are some of my absolute favorite games of all time.

If I might make a very careful estimation: that game will be made (yay!), it will be huge (yay!!), it will be on the Mac (yay!!!!) and the mentioned Collector's Edition Premium Boxed Version will come in a packaging made of pure gold.
(Besides, the Double Fine Kickstarter ended up with $3,335,265, just to get an idea how much money nostalgic fans of good old gaming awesomeness can bring up for a game that is not even made.)

I've had my mouse pointer over the "Back this Project" button since yesterday, but I'm waiting to see if it will come close to the $1.5M mark for a Mac OS version. Then again, Wasteland 2 might just be the title that could get me to re-install Windows... I've even fought through the temptation for games like Skyrim and Batman: Arkham City, so that's saying something.

Yes, but say I chip in and it still doesn't reach the $1.5M mark. I know it would be going to a good cause (a looooong overdue sequel), but I still won't have the version I'd prefer. I would like my contribution to go towards getting a Mac OS version, not just any version - and I'm sure it'll hit the base goal amount no matter what.
I can decide to buy a Windows only copy, if that's all we get, when the game is released. If so, I'll still be supporting the developers and the project at that time.
All said, my logic is still probably very flawed, but it least it goes towards explaining my rationale.

That being said, the short version is, yes, modern version of the top down view (isometric is the term.)
