From GameBanshee:

It's been nearly 11 years since Throne of Bhaal brought the Baldur's Gate series to a legendary and satisfying close, but now... something is stirring behind the scenes. We don't know what it is just yet, exactly, but what we do know is that there's now a theme song-playing Baldur's Gate teaser site online and that former BioWare designer Trent Oster and his crew over at Beamdog are behind it.

Does this mean we're going to be getting some kind of a remake in the same vein as MDK2 HD? Or perhaps an iOS, Android, or console port like Interplay and Beamdog teamed up for previously? Or maybe, just maybe, it will be an entirely new game in the Baldur's Gate franchise? We don't know, and when we quizzed Trent about it, all he'd say is:

Quote

We're not related to the Steam complete edition, I can tell you that much. Other than that, we're hoping to announce something soon.
That "complete edition" he mentions was already sleuthed last week, so apparently this is something totally different. To add to the mystery, there are comments left for us in the teaser site's source page:

Quote

Shadowy Figure- Raise Dead : Infinity Engine

For years, I clung to the memory of it. Then the memory of the memory.

And then... it returned. Better than it was before.

Pore over the tapestries and works of art hanging from our walls if you wish, Child of Bhaal... perhaps you will find a clue. But patience, ah... patience would reveal it all.

As the silver moon waxes and wanes, so too does life.

This could be interesting, particularly if a Mac version of whatever it is happens to surface.

I loved the Baldur's Gate games back in the day. If they made more Infinity Engine games, I would be a buyer if they were decent. The Baldur's Gate series had a good close, I would rather see a new Icewind Dale myself. A new infinity engine series altogether would not be bad either. Maybe something set in Cormyr or some other area of Faerun that has not been explored my games as of yet.

A working infinity engine on Mac would be awesome... I run it in Cider, and it explodes no matter what resolution I use on my 27" iMac.. :(
"They're everywhere!"

And now, time for some Legend of Zelda.

One of the devs posted this on Twitter:

A new toy for the office. What could we be developing that would require an iMac?

That screams iOS. I have to say, that BG1 + 2 on iPad would be insta buys from me... And the best games I've played on it so far.

There are ways to make those games play on iPad already. Supposedly they run quite well at that. I do not have instructions for doing so, but I am sure a quick Google search will yield something. Neverwinter Nights 1 & 2 are said to work on iPads as well.

The comments embedded within the source code on the Baldur's Gate teaser website have changed, and they make it pretty clear that the team at Beamdog knows that they've piqued our interest.

Take heart fellow adventurers, for you have curried the favor of Boo, the only miniature giant space hamster in the Realm!

I can teach you how to use your wrath.
Additionally, someone has put together a "coming soon" teaser trailer, though Trent claims that it wasn't them:

Well, some people might be interested in it. At least they have a link now.

Well, I'd love it on my iPad, but I'm not jailbreaking it just for that.

Apparently, they don't know that I have a family now.  And a good job.  Both of which I'd like to keep.

Guard: You wouldn't kill a man with a wife and ten children, would you?
Protagonist: No way, you've got a fate worse than death already.

And yes, I stole the pantaloons before I played Baldur's Gate II. It was a good thing I kept them as well!

Those of us trying to figure out what Baldur's Gate project Beamdog has been diligently working on received a few more clues via Twitter this week, with not just one or two updates, but three total tweets alerting us to meetings that owner Trent Oster attended with Wizards of the Coast, Atari, and NVIDIA during this week's Game Developers Conference:

Quote

Forgot to mention awesome meeting yesterday with the #WizardsoftheCoast guys. Great talking #d&d with them

...

Great meeting with #Atari at #GDC now we need to get all the ducks in a row for an announcement #baldursgate #bestthingever

...

Final day of #gdc We've seen the people we came to see. Just met with the Nvidia guys. #naptime
So what more can we surmise knowing that all three of these companies are somehow involved?
The tease continues!

There's a countdown now with 10 hours, 30 minutes to go.

"We do what we must, because we can."
"Gaming on a Mac is like women on the internet." — "Highly common and totally awesome?"
