I didn't expect this one; Pre-Order The Darkness II for Mac

From the site:

Inspired by the popular comic book series  produced by Top Cow Productions, Inc., The Darkness II is an intense  first person shooter that delivers a twisted and gripping narrative of  tragedy, modern crime drama, and supernatural horror.

Players will be taken down the brutal and personal path of Jackie  Estacado, head of a New York crime family and wielder of an ancient and  ruthless force of chaos and destruction known as The Darkness.

It’s been two years since Jackie Estacado used The Darkness to kill  the men responsible for his girlfriend’s murder. He’s been unable to  shake the memory of Jenny’s death since bottling up his supernatural  power and now The Darkness wants out. A sudden, unprovoked attack by a  mysterious organization known as the Brotherhood heralds the start of a  full-scale war and opens the door for The Darkness to reemerge, setting  Jackie on a journey to hell and worse.

Key Features
  • 4-Player Co-op Campaign - Play as one of four unique characters each capable of wielding weapons infused with Darkness powers.
  • Quad-Wielding Chaos - Slash, grab, and throw objects and  enemies with the Demon Arms while simultaneously firing two weapons,  adding a new dimension to the FPS category.
  • Harness an Unstoppable Power - Master the Demon Arms and summon the powers of The Darkness for even more explosive gameplay.
  • Kill the Lights - The vicious powers of The Darkness manifest  only in the shadows so use the environment to your advantage and watch  out for enemies who will use light as a weapon.
  • Intense and Personal Journey - Experience a dark, twisted and  gripping story written exclusively for the game by acclaimed comic book  author Paul Jenkins whose credits also include The Incredible Hulk,  Wolverine, and the original The Darkness game.
  • Distinctive Graphic-Noir Style - Graphic novel shading and  color combined with the dramatic lighting of film noir pays tribute to  the source material and brings the pages of the comic series to life.  Inspired by the popular comic book series created by Top Cow.
DRM: This game requires a 3rd party download and account

I wonder if transgaming\cider is involved... AC2 was on gametree first and it turned out to be native... we'll have to see. It appears this will only be available on steam although that doesn't preclude cider as some games like Psychonauts are on steam with integration and use Cider. But it may end up working well either way given the progress they've been making. But yeah I didn't expect it either. $50 is a bit much for me though if it's a cider port... although yeah it's $50 on PC too and it's the same game. :P

Woah, cool. I played the PC demo a few days ago and had a lot of fun, but wasn't tempted to buy it. A mac port makes things much more enticing.

No. That's an extra feature. Single player is the prime content.

I played the demo on PS3 and like it. Might be worth getting it for Mac if it's reasonably priced.

The game is a lot of fun, but $50 seems steep if only because from what I hear the game is very short. (Like 6 hours of campaign, but could play through it twice given the skill selection mechanics) Of course it just came out like a week ago on the PC (also at $50) so its unlikely to see a price drop anytime soon. Personally I probably wouldn't get it for more than $40. Of course if I had all the money I wanted to buy games (which I don't) then I'd gladly pay $50. I think new, good games that are brought over quickly to the Mac should be rewarded/supported.

Umm... so why isn't this available for Pre-Order on Steam as it was for the PC version? Hmmm....

It seems the PC version has a locked FOV at 60° but they are testing an FOV slider for the game right now.

From twitter @dahanese:

It's not as if they would have a choice: as soon as the Mac version is available, it has to be Steamplay.

In the light of Steam's history of mad sales, that will probably down to $5 by June.

Going for £20 here down from £39.99, redeemable on Steam: http://www.greenmang...on/darkness-ii/

Might be worth grabbing it provided they do Steamplay.

Probably be interested at that kind of price but will wait until it is actually out as I bought the PC version of red orchestra a year or two back because a Mac version was planned but so far nothing....

Has to be Steamplay? Where does it say has to be. I have a number of games that have both Mac & PC versions you play through Steam, but its not Steamplay. Supreme Commander 2 comes to mind for one. I'm not betting on Steamplay at all, but rather Steam being required just for the DRM.

We'll see. Of course Steamplay would be ideal, but I still think it won't be.
