Hi Everybody

I have recently updated my OS Lion 10.7.5 to OS Mavericks 10.9.5 and actually Rage lags a lot inside the game! Have you got this problem too? what is the solution?

Regards

No, there was no difference I could see. Combat was fluid, loading lag was a bit because I have it now on an external USB drive.
Maybe the intel HD 3000 ignores most of the eye-candy possilities of 'real' gfx-cards, so, no lag. ;)
hey, don´t worry - it´s only red pixels on your hands...

Hi

thanks for your reply, my macbookpro is a mid-2010 with a Geforce GT330m with 256mo, and when the game launch OSX switch the graphic to the external. So normally there are no problems with my graphical card. your config is Intel HD3000 (internal graphic) , so where is the problem with rage on my mac?

(sorry i am not very goog in english) :)

Just fired up the Campaign Edition.

What resolution did you guys use for 27" iMacs? If I set it to the native resolution, then I only see 1/9 of the screen. I can only play at 5:4 (1280x1024), and it looks really bad and distorted. And how do I actually get the game to look good? I've set everything to max in video settings, and the game looks like popsnizzle anyway. And I get texture popping all over the place.

As for resolution, that will just be trial and error. Once you find one that's 16:9 and fills ur screen right, then start playing with settings.

As for the texture pop, yeah, that ain't going anywhere. It's there on the PC side too, and one of the reasons why that id engine saw little licensing compared to its predecessors.

Main reason was that Bethesda decided against licensing it.

I went through them all, and the only resolution that actually works, is the default one mentioned above. I can't play at any other resolution! And most texture popping takes ~1 second... And with that resolution, awful. I'll mess some more with it tomorrow, but it its current state, I find it not worth playing.

Funny enough, I found an iMac same as mine on youtube, playing the game, and there it looks fine. I wonder if Rage has just gotten too old for OSX at this point, and therefore it is a drivers issue.

Just fired it up for the first time on El Capitan to see (Mac Pro with 7950) and see what you mean. I did eventually find 2560x1440 in the resolutions with left cursor but got the top quarter screen.

I used command q to get out and when relaunching the correct resolution had stuck and was normal full screen now.

Regarding the texture popping which I agree is annoying as hell I find that you have to run with the anti-aliasing off, the jagged edges are annoying but less so than the textures.

Yeah, you are right! Changing the resolution, and then quitting and starting the game fixes it.

So that's the resolution nailed.. Now, I need to find out something about that popping.. 4 seconds to set textures just aint right! Disabling AA didn't do any difference for me, so I just keep it on.

If you manage to solve the texture pop problem in Rage for Mac, you'd be the first! Go for it!!

Haha, thanks for the encouragement! I timed it, and it takes up to 12 seconds for all textures to load, which I find crazy! It also gives me gameplay problems, as the game looks like popsnizzle whenever I turn, and blinking items to pick up look exactly the same as objects that have a light texture on it also, so you have to move around caaaarefully to find all things scattered around.

In addition, I just fint the textures to be of a really low quality in general. I mean, Doom 3 looks much better? O_o

That does not sound normal – both issues. The longest time for the textures to load I experienced on my significantly less powerful Mac mini back then was two or three seconds (still bad enough to be very noticeable), and the textures were (mostly) quite crisp.

Well, to be fair, they will license it... if you let Bethesda publish.

Surprisingly, no one has ever responded with anything other than "lolno." Can't imagine why.

Yeah, that looks right. A bunch of the textures really look like a jpeg with a too high compression.

Yep. That was Carmack's much-vaunted "megatexture" tech or something from the Tech5 engine. Ended up not being so mega.

Darn that is sad. Why that was ever marketed as the next step in games, I have no idea. But good to know that it was running as expected on my setup.

Wasn't the big innovation in id Tech 5 the way they used shaders?

Well, they worked alright in ET Quake Wars. I think the problems are mainly with the new texture streaming they introduced.

That makes me wonder: the new Wolfenstein games also use idTech 5. Do they still have these texture pop-in problems?
