... that if on, opens the last 5 or so items opened in an app, when you open the app to work on something? Because, if there is, I'd like to turn it off. This is probably a bug in Lion, because it is ef'n stupid.

Whenever I open a .pdf, .doc, image, etc., the last several items I opened with that same app open. It is driving me CRAZY!

Anyone experiencing this? Surely, it is not a feature.

It is one of the major features of Lion. You can turn it off in Systempreferences somewhere.

I reinstalled Snow Leopard, I can't work in Lion. Mission Control is awesome, but other than that, no thanks.

And now, time for some Legend of Zelda.

Okay, maybe you don't understand the rules here. You're gonna have to help me more than, "You can turn it off in Systempreferences somewhere."

:)

Please. I just looked and noticed nothing remotely related to software apps.

Hmmm, for what I have seen, I have quite a few misgivings myself. I can say that the new Mail and iCal are supposd to be really good; the new Safari looks half decent too.

It's called Resume, and obviously it's a bit broken if you have to neurotically close everything before quitting to stop it from spamming you with windows. The pref is under the general tab, near the bottom, 'restore windows when quitting and reopening apps'.

That's where my "I reinstalled Snow Leopard" came in... I can't remember where the setting was, I just to know it is there, and wanted you to know so you didn't loose all faith in Lion.. ;)

Too bad the OS X spell check can't catch something like mixing up loose and lose. Not even Lion does it seems... I checked.

Loose: |lo͞os|
adjective
1 not firmly or tightly fixed in place; detached or able to be detached: a loose tooth | the truck's trailer came loose.
• not held or tied together; not packaged or placed in a container: wear your hair loose | pockets bulging with loose change..

Lose: |lo͞oz|
verb ( past and past participle lost |lôst, läst| ) [ with obj. ]
1 be deprived of or cease to have or retain (something): I've lost my appetite | Linda was very upset about losing her job | the company may find itself losing customers to cheaper rivals.

No, that would be a grammar check, but loose still works here as a verb meaning something like release, let go of, etc. (as in 'loose the hounds'):

You didn't let go of all faith in Lion.

See?

In my opinion it mostly slid past because the word loose passes the spell check. But most people who use it in place of lose don't use it correctly. Like when someone says, "YOU LOOSER". Also many people say it correctly but then turn around and type it as a completely different word than what they said!

I guess for that previous sentence it can work but loose is not a whole sale replacement for the word lose. I'm sorry but either way it doesn't look right to me at all. Only very loosely speaking. ;)

Also english probably isn't his first language so I can understand it. Although again I wouldn't go around telling people that loose is a whole sale replacement for the word lose. I mean what happens when they want to describe it in the past tense. Like if a team didn't win the game. It's "the team lost the game".. not loosed and loost is not a word. ;)

Turned this setting off a while ago. Was annoying me too. I think it's about time that Apple rid the world of traditional HDDs and force everyone to have a 1TB SSD, or something... THEN the feature would be easier to deal with.

Another one that annoys me is when developers of certain apps, like Pixelmator, in which I do a little dabbling, force you to use OSX's new save system. I want Save As... back, and not to necessarily have changes be auto-saved to a file.

The loss of Save As as an option is the primary reason i haven't upgraded to Lion, along with the annoying UI "improvements".

WTF?  No 'Save as"?  I just used that not 2 minutes ago, one of the most handy ways ever to edit a file and save your work in another file.  The more I hear about Lion the more I dread it.  I think I'm just going to skip Lion altogether and hope the next big cat has better sense.  Apple can be so stupid.  I mean really stupid, Save As has been a necessary staple since OS1.0.  Forcing saves is incredible bad UI.  I want to save when it is appropriate to me, not some stupid timer ticking off the seconds.

This may be generally useful: How to make Lion more like Snow Leopard
I've stayed with SL myself. Nothing I've read about Lion attracted me. First time I've ever stayed with an older OS.

You can still save as, although now it is called duplicate. Oh, and another 'handy' feature - If you haven't edited a file for more than two weeks, the system automatically locks it, and asks if you want to unlock it, or duplicate it, the next time you edit it. Makes sense of course, because you'd like duplicates of all your files for no apparent reason, right?

Personally, the disaster that is the Adressbook finally convinced me. I went back to SL.

Removing save as has nothing to due with Lion. It simply introduced an autosaving feature to compliment normal saving. You'll notice apple apps, such as pages still have save as and stuff (on top of auto saves)

That is entirely pixelmator's fault for being idiots. I'd fire them an email and let them know

Not quite. There is no simple, quick and fairly universal "Save as..." keystroke. In 10.6, you could 99.9% of the time just hit cmd-shift-S and up comes the prompt. In 10.7, you have no such consistency. Almost all apps that now have auto-saving have a "duplicate" menu option with no attached keystroke so that you can quickly duplicate something. It's not like duplication is really all that useful if you now have to hunt that particular file down in the finder to rename it should you want to.

It is stupid of the pixelmator devs, but so far their only word on the matter has been "you'll get used to it."

Apple should really have mandated that Save As remain across the board, in addition to duplicate etc. etc. etc. However, the potential is still there for it to happen, it's just that some developers and some apps, even within Apple, are dropping this kind of thing. God knows why, it's a damned useful function to have...
