Feral Interactive's new gangster adventure, Mafia II: Director’s Cut, is now available for purchase. Developed by 2K Czech and published by 2K Games for game consoles and PC, Mafia II: Director’s Cut is a specially-created package that includes the standalone version of Mafia II and all of the game's previously released add-on packs and downloadable content.

Set in post-World War II America, Mafia II: Director’s Cut is an intense, tightly woven story that transports players into the dark and unforgiving world of organized crime. Players control Vito Scaletta, a Sicilian immigrant making a name for himself on the mean streets of Empire Bay. Together with his childhood friend Joe Barbaro, Vito quickly becomes a trusted member of a powerful mob family, but quickly discovers that the life of a wise guy is as dangerous as it is glamorous.

If Vito is to rise from lowly foot soldier to made man, he must earn a reputation as an efficient enforcer, a skilled getaway driver and a reliable hit-man. The gripping narrative is interspersed with visceral action that combines brutal shoot-outs, hand-to-hand combat, and realistic driving that accurately recreates cars from the period. A sense of time and place is evoked throughout by a soundtrack of hit songs from the 1940s and 50s.

Mafia II: Director’s Cut contains all the downloadable content and expansion packs for Mafia II, including arcade-style missions in The Betrayal of Jimmy and Jimmy’s Vendetta, where players take on the role of a contract killer. Players also get the chance to become Joe Barbaro in Joe’s Adventures, a separate eight-hour campaign which answers many of the questions that remain at the end of Mafia II: Director’s Cut.

“With a sophisticated ambience, deftly-written plot and outstanding voice acting, Mafia II: Director’s Cut is a rich, cinematic experience and a completely absorbing game,” said David Stephen, Managing Director of Feral Interactive.

Minimum system requirements call for a 2.0 GHz Intel Mac with at least 4GB RAM, Mac OS X 10.6.8 or later, and 256MB of graphics memory. The following graphics cards are not supported: ATI X1xxx series, ATI 2400, NVIDIA 9400, NVIDIA 7xxx series and Intel GMA series. The following cards require will require 4GB of system RAM: NVIDIA 320M and Intel HD 3000. These requirements are subject to change before Mafia II: Director’s Cut ships.
The Mac edition of Mafia II: Director’s Cut is available now for $39.99 (USD).

Just got the latest edition of Mac Format which has a full page advert on the back page for Mafia II :) Not quite a scoop this time though as the game had already been officially announced. It has been funny the last few times to see an advert for a game appearing in a magazine that hadn't quite been officially announced online.

In the same magazine they give Batman Arkham Asylum 5 stars and also review Nuclear Dawn, Tomb Raider II & Football Manager 2012.

Excellent port and choice again by Feral. I'm really enjoying playing Mafia 2 so far. It's similar to the GTA games in scope and has a great atmosphere and story. Thankfully it hasn't shown the ridiculous difficulty level of the original game yet. One day I will finish the first one because I want to see what happens at the end of the story but you can only play the same level over and over so many times before you have to take a break.

I know I play a fair few games but my thoughts on the difficulty based on my play through is that the game not that hard, unlike the original the difficulty progression is a lot more linear so you should have less "Oh crap I am stuck and have to start again" missions.

Anything is possible - we did get the GTA Trilogy eventually so Rockstar can't be totally against their stuff making it to the Mac unlike some.

Color me skeptical but that GTA trilogy is rather old. So old I'm surprised it even bothered to be ported, but I suppose lots of people still play older titles. Given I already played GTA IV in bootcamp there was no way I could go back to the previous games. My point of all this is I don't take the porting of much older games as a sign they will port newer ones. If they had done GTA IV then I would get my hopes up for it.

Still I'd like to be proven wrong, but the skeptic in me says no :P
