In a new interview with Inside Mac Games, TransGaming has revealed some of its upcoming plans for Mac gaming. Although no specific titles were revealed, the company promised Mac versions of two major game franchises would be making their way to the platform courtesy of Cider. The TransGaming Studios division will also announce its next original IP title this fall.

Cord Kruse: What does TransGaming have on the schedule for the remainder of the year?

TransGaming: There are a number of upcoming Mac titles that will be released this year that use TransGaming's Mac enablement technology. Unfortunately, due to confidentiality agreements we cannot give specifics yet. But we are confident that the Mac community will truly embrace these long-awaited major releases, including Mac versions of two major game franchises. Fans can check the TransGaming website for announcements on upcoming titles.

With the recent successful release of KULA BLOX, TransGaming's Studio Division is continuing to create additional content for the game. They have also begun work on their upcoming original IP game title, which should be announced later this fall.

Transgaming seems to have good relationships with Electronic Arts and Ubisoft, so I will guess the new Battlefield game and Might and Magic Heroes VI will be coming to the Mac.

Forget Battlefield – Cider simply cannot handle that engine. More likely are the latest Assassin‘s Creed or Anno 2070. MMH6 is of course also possible.

A true Minesweeper port—not a knockoff—would be welcome. I bet that’s it.

Ubisoft has been doing all their ports without TransGaming, its seems unlikely they would suddenly switch to using them. Plus the AC Franchise is already on the mac, there's no new "bringing it to the mac." My two cents on AC Revelations. Of course game companies do illogical things so I guess we'll see.

Well, they do since AC2 – before that, it was Cider. However, you are right. I forgot about that.

Nevertheless, note that this Transgaming puppet does not say that the "two major game franchises" are new to the Mac. He might simply allude to yet another Sims 3 expansion and something else completely trivial...

Anyway, while writing this, Star Wars TOR came into mind. It's scheduled to be released this year and obviously, they are aiming to make the game run on as many computers as possible (what I saw on the GamesCom didn't look bad – but definitely less refined than for instance Mass Effect or Dragon Age). So it might be feasible to slap some Cider wrapper on it and sell it as Mac "port".

SWTOR would be very feasible in that way, but don't they have to keep it up to date constantly with patches and stuff, since its an MMO ?? It seems like transgaming doesn't usually like to bother with patches that much, and when they do, they're often very late

It's not without precedence: City of Heroes, EVE Online, Warhammer Online and Lego Universe are all ciderised MMOs, but if I recall correctly, TG let's the original developers do most of the work there.

"long-awaited major releases" seems to me to indicate that they do not have to be necessarily "new" titles. Company of Heroes could be one if that was the case.

Maybe Transgaming has convinced Bethesda to finally return to the Mac? Oblivion and Fallout 3 anybody?

I thought the feeling from developers of SWTOR was that they'd shipped the Windows version first and then consider bringing to Mac. Personally I think it'll be Mass Effect 2 seeing Bioware's games always tend to make it to Mac eventually, although I've always been hoping for a native version, and Need for Speed The Run since it's been a while since Need for Speed has been on Mac.

I'll have to make a mental note that there will soon be two more Ciderized ports to avoid...

I was under the impression that Bethesda was just as likely to have any of their games be ported to the Mac as Hell was to freeze over.

...maybe not? ;)

A beter question would have been what if anything they plan to do about the general crappy game play involved with TransGaming(wine) ports and the unavailability of updates on par with the PC versions.

An even better question is if the community can do it with their unofficial Cider\WINE ports why can't transgaming? Hell I even believe it or not played an unofficial Crysis Cider port and the gameplay was very smooth on high settings for most things. This was even with the prerelease demo loaded into it which doesn't have optimizations they added in later on.

Yup. The Battlefield 2142 patch 1.51 for Mac is long overdue, rendering the Mac "port" of that game useless due to a lack of servers supporting the old version...
