I'm getting Deus Ex: Human Revolution tomorrow. I thought it would be fun to talk about our favorite moments from the original. One of my favorite moments in Deus Ex was when I was being chased into a warehouse full of by UNATCO or Majestic 7 troops (can't remember which one) and it was filled with toxic waste containers. I raced up to the third floor with a box full of explosives, then I tossed it over the rail when the troops were coming in to pursue me. That set off an explosion that blasted open all of the wast containers, killing all of the bad guys. The other favorite part I had was in a facility (Area 51?) where the Men in Black were. They were in a break room and I opened up the door, tossed in a White Phosphorous grenade, then closed the door. You could hear panicked screams and eventually the Men in Black exploded. You just don't get options like those in most games.

When dealing with the 1st hostage situation in the subway station at the start of the game, I did a "reverse" drop (walked through backwards so that I was facing the general direction of most of the terrorists) through an air vent onto the hostage platform, and chucked a gas grenade at all of the terrorists before they could react; they all began coughing and a casually drew my pistol and headshot each and every one of them.

A simple situation but it was the first time in the game I tried to do something other than busting in the front, guns blazing. It gave me a real sense of power and from that point on I tried to solve every problem while thinking outside of the box.

Absolutely great game, and I can't wait to get my hands on Human Revolution.

It's been too long to remember the names and places correctly.  There was a high ranking bioaltered guy and it was supposed to be your big showdown with him when you came back from the half sunken area you have to wade and swim through.  The fight is supposed to take place in an underground mining area, and as you return to the area you meet the character and he gives you a big dressing down with lots of threats of how he is going to eat your liver with fava beans.  Well, before I left for the half sunken area I put proximity mines all around the spot he was supposed to spawn.  When I came back for the fight HE WAS A GHOST.  You could see right through him!  He gave his speech just the same, all about how he was going to rip your arm off and beat you to death with it, but when he finished his speech he ran away like a little girl.  I followed him to where he was hiding in a room crouched down behind a table and I shot him once with the pistol and he was dead.  I had the saved game file of it, might even have had it here on this forum.

I had a Finnish friend at the time named Erkki, we were all over this game messing with the characters and coming back to Hotline to laugh at each others antics and pics.  We would spend hours setting up an area, carrying boxes and explosives, booby trapping, jamming doors and making life totally suck for the game characters before we would finally play through the level.  This was a game like no other.

Yes, DX was full of great moments to let you screw up the scripted events.

But I guess my biggest moment in DX was, when I discoverd for real how much fun (and powerful) Gas-Granades actually were. I think it took me 2 playthroughs to discover that, finally. Since them I used them generously.

But the Dragon´s Tooth is was much to powerful. Recently I played only by sword and the sniper and grenades. That´s all I need.

BTW if anybody is interested: DX:HR runs on the Intel HD 3000 remarkably well. Which means: it´s not entirely a bag of nails.
Up to 30FPS  on 1280x800 but fill rate lag when entering a new room is severe.
A good compromise is 1024x768. Looks far better than 800x600 and still give you a `
`playable` framerate.

I am suprised it runs at all. ;)

I used to fill Manderley's office with all of the props in Unatco. It resulted in interesting NPC reactions.
Paris was my favorite level set in the games, it had a lot of diverse settings and a lot of the high level nano-augs could be obtained there as well.

I used to bounce the basketball off of Manderley's head throughout our meetings, I think he secretly enjoyed it.  Erkki and I would trade screenshots of Manderley trying to look at us during a conversation while we were in super stupid locations hoping to twist his head off.  There was a restroom in the bar where you hook up with the helicopter pilot, Erkki dropped a chocolate bar into the trough urinal there and sent me the screenshot, I printed it out and had it on my wall for awhile.  We also did some up-skirt screenshot trading.  I had totally forgotten about these things.  What a tremendous game in comparison with rail shooters.  Why is it so hard anymore for companies to make a game to simply let the players play in it.

I agree with you about the game. Deus Ex was awesome and I have yet to play anything that can even be compared to its brilliance. I would love to reply it but they never brought it to OS X sadly. I know winewrappers and ciderized versions of it exist but I still prefer native over emulation.
Did you ever kill someone with candy bars or multitools? It can be done! You can kill people with the basket balls too I think, but you have to throw it from high above or something like that. Strangely, the candy bars and mulitools work up-close if you have enough of them. You can use cheats as well and that can produce some interesting screenshots. Imagine a dead bum or MJ12 troop covered by 100 candy bars.

I've never seen anybody killed by chocolate, but by damn that's the way I want to go.  But in reply, I never killed anybody in Deus Ex with candy or multitools.  I've dropped boxes of TNT on folks.  Nothing says "die" like a box of TNT or a barrel of toxic waste dropped on your head from the 5th story of a building.

I'm starting to feel like my Deus Ex experience was completely vanilla :D Incidently it runs flawlessly in Crossover.

I'm really starting to itch to play Deus Ex again... Now, where can I get a Windows copy of that game?

I'd honestly prefer a version without ties to Steam.

If the Mac version still would run, I wouldn't be looking for a Windows version. :P But Amazon's a good tip.

You can always play in offline mode. That's what I do for most of my Steam games.
