I use VMWare to run my bootcamp/windows partition on my mac. Upon installing Lion today, it quit working. Winclone isn't compatible. Any idea how I can get it working (I've already deleted the partition) so the only hope I have is taking my windows partition from my macbook and copying it to my desktop running Lion. Help?!

Why did you delete the partition? If your Macbook is still running 10.6 why not just run winclone from there?

I can run winclone from there to get the file created, but then can't run winclone from the lion OS to restore it

Get a Firewire cable and start the desktop up in target mode and install from your laptop.

VMWare won't be compatible until they've gone through their software and checked that it's totally compatible with the final build of Lion. This takes time, and this kind of thing is the cost of being a day 1 adopter. When 10.6 was released, the turn around was 2 months, as they also had to wait for Windows 7 to launch. This time the wait for a Lion compatible patch should hopefully not be quite as long, but you will need to be patient.

Likewise, WinClone is sadly discontinued software. It still works in 10.5 and 10.6, but won't ever be updated to 10.7. I also asked around for an alternative a few days ago, but got nothing.

As Hansi said (I'm elaborating), your best bet is to create the Boot Camp partition you require on the desktop. When it says to restart with a Windows disc, instead put the desktop into target disk mode, and connect it to your laptop over Firewire. On the laptop, load up WinClone, and select the newly created partition on your desktop (Be EXTRA careful about what partition you choose), then just wait it out and it should be fine.
