I wonder if it is even possible to ever need updates for the keyboard.

When they release a couple of new letters, you'll need those updates.

I'll be receiving the Dragon Age II Razer BlackWidow Ultimate today.

So what's the best mouse to use with it? Razer DeathAdder ? Or Razer Naga?

I've just bought the BlackWidow Ultimate for mac.
Just wondering is it just me or any others having same issue, when i try to use the keyboard shortcut for sleep "Command+Option+Eject", it's not working!
I tried to setup a macro and found that the eject key is not able to be included.
It is working fine when I insert a disc into my imac, so the key should have any faulty design.
Is it the problem of my new keyboard? Thanks

It depends on your preferences and such. I know I LOVE my DeathAdder, and I would never use all the macro keys on the Naga. However if you feel as if 2 extra buttons aren't enough, then I can imagine the Naga being a good choice as well.

I think that the Naga is a pretty niche mouse meant only for RPG's. I have a death adder as well, and love it, but I can imagine that the Naga would be better for RPG's like Dragon Age.

If your thinking of playing RTS and shooters as well though then I'd get a death adder

Building upon what these guys have said, I would reccomend the DeathAdder as the mouse type for purchase. The only thing(s) now you might want to think about, is this: do you want wireless and profile/preferences portability? The Mamba will give you a wireless option and also giving the the ability to take your profiles/setup preferences with you from computer to computer. The Imperator will only give the you ability to move your profiles around with your mouse. …and the DeathAdder is the basic version of this mouse design. Personally I would go with the DeathAdder, as I would say most people do not need the Imperator and definitely not the Mamba.

I love Dragon Age 2! I think if you're heavy into RPGs/MMORPGs, go with the Naga, I personally use the DeathAdder (awesome mouse!) that I bought to replace my Razer Diamondback. I personally am a big first person shooter fan and the DeathAdder is more than adequate for the FPSs and Dragon Age series.

So a tab purely for updating?

Oh dear...

Liberator.

I suppose it didn't need it's own tab, but it displays the driver and firmware version (1.00 and 1.07, respectively, at the time of this writing), one button titled Check for Updates and one button states Reset Active Profile. The Check for Updates brings you to their support site for the BlackWidow.

Yeah, as I thought. It somewhat makes sense, but still rather unnecessary too.

Thanks for all the feedback on the Naga versus DeathAdder versus others.

So what are your thoughts on specs like
6400dpi 4G Dual Sensor System (Mamba, Imperator)
versus
5600dpi Razer Precision 3.5G laser sensor (Lachesis)
versus
3500dpi Razer Precision 3.5G Infrared sensor (DeathAdder)?

Is that all hype or does it really make difference.

Mostly hype. That much sensitivity is pretty much useless. Anything over 1.5k will do most gamers fine.

I would agree. I have one of the older Mac Deathadders. It has a top DPI of1800, and I am not sure how having any more DPI will help significantly as it is already an excellent mouse with very fine control.

Also, you have just given two different mouse designs as examples of the DPI difference. I would advise that you try out the claw and palm designs and see which one you like more.

NB. The claw design fits the Lachesis, while the palm design fits the others (Deathadder, Imperator and Mamba). Your palm may also sweat a lot while using the Deathadder, or other such mice.

I have questions for those with the Mac model and are running Boot Camp.

Does the Razer software in Windows recognize and work with the Mac version?

Are there any problems creating and using macros or switching profiles on the fly?

I'm trying out a PC version of the keyboard and I like it, but... I'm finding I'd prefer to have a "properly" mapped keyboard for day to day Mac functions, but I need the gaming functions to work in Boot Camp since that where most of my games are. Razer's support says the PC drivers don't work on the Mac keyboard and vice versa, however the Mac drivers are recognizing and working with the PC keyboard I have. The macro listings are off if I create something on the fly, but functionally it is doing what I want. I just wondered if the same was true in the reverse.

Thanks.

I believe that with Razer's mice, there is no difference between a mac or pc model, as they both work fine for both…I cannot say about the keyboards though. I although cannot think of why they would not work.

It might just be a marketing ploy? ;)

You're correct, the mice aren't distinct and my Razer Deathadder works exactly the same with both Mac and PC drivers. The Razer posting about drivers not working across Mac/PC model keyboards was in their support knowledge base, but it could be there mostly so they don't have to support people trying to do what I am wanting to do (which I understand and am fine with).

I'd just like to confirm a Mac keyboard can still use its gaming profiles and macros in Windows.

Hmmm, I am not sure. You could always message Umar, maybe RobART or someone from Razer might be kind enough to not tow the company line and actually say whether it works. Best of luck!

i just picked up the "PC" version of the Black Widow Ultimate, and it works totally fine in OSX with Razer's drivers.

You just have to go into the OSX Keyboard preferences and swap the functions for Command and Option (so they are on the right keys) and ... poof.

So, barring anything else, you can just get the PC version and it will work 100% with your mac.  The Function keys are even bound to their default iTunes/Expose controls.

Razer just needs to make a gaming trackball that doesn't suck and is as good as the Kensington Expert Mouse i have.. and my conversion will be complete.

I forgot how awesome a mechanical keyboard is.

Does anyone know how much of a real difference there is between the Razer Lycosa and Black Widow? I have been lately thinking about buying a keyboard in the near future. The latest Apple keyboard is good, but it has no back-lighting. GERRRRRRR!!!!!!

Thanks,
