Hmm. But is Duke worth even $10? I wasn't very impressed by the demo.

Today's IMG review of Duke Nukem Forever seems to indicate it is.  And I'm more inclined to believe it more than a bunch of the bad ones I've seen around the web.

If you count the number of exclamation marks in the review, it comes out to about 62 cents per exclamation mark. With a ratio like that it must be a good deal!

I don't think it is. I was very unimpressed by the demo. The only thing the game has going for it in my book is the humor. But the actual game and gunplay were really poor. Probably the only way I'd play this is if I was desperate and it was either free or on sale for $5. However I doubt either of things are going to happen.

It's listed as $24.99 (marked down from $49.99) if I go to the store in the Steam client.

If I go to steampowered.com in my browser it's shown as $9.99 though (whether I log in or not). Plus it's listed twice (shows up two times in search results, in the specials sidebar, and in the list of new releases.) Good old Steam.

Without really thinking it through much, I bought it for 9.99.

One reason is that I've been playing Assassin's Creed 2. (Don't get me started on the Mac version's bugs that require me to unplug my Microsoft keyboard before playing and also to restart it periodically.) Great game, but very serious, with lots of sketchy conspiracy theories, glowering, sneaking and assassinating. I think a few rowdy, goofy, politically-incorrect sessions battlin' aliens with DNF will be a fun antidote afterwards. I don't expect I'll play it all the way through.

I am always a little peeved by the Steam Store's treatment of Mac Games. Whenever I log into Steam I faithfully tab over to the Mac tab to see if there's anything new. And usually there is, but they seem to be primarily rinky-dink casual games made by independent studios (not that there's anything wrong with that, but I am not all that interested in the Wedding Dash-type games). And yet, Psychonauts is Steamplay-able for Mac! I'm thrilled to death, but why wasn't it on the Mac Tab? Have they also released, oh, I don't know, Mass Effect, or something for the Mac and I just don't know about it because it's not on the Mac Tab?

Am I the only one who feels like Macs get little love on Steam?

It was in the featured list on the mac tab on the front page. They're system lists the game by release date and since Psychonauts was a old game that got Steamplay it didn't get a new release date.

alldaveallen: I agree - it would be nicer if games new to the Mac were flagged as such in the Mac section. I'm sometimes surprised that games have been released but I never knew as it wasn't highlighted. Would it really be hard for each game to have two dates associated with it if applicable which Steam could filter on when people look for new releases ?

It's not rocket science to add it but I think like mos things for successful online stores that they are slow in publishing updates. Might want to contact them and suggest it though.

I never liked how steam makes up a Release Date for its games. When I'm digging around for PC games, I see something released THIS YEAR and I think "oh, cool, new game I missed" ... but turns out its some 8 year piece of HORSE popsnizzle but steam changed the release date to like yesterday. Assholes.

I guess I missed it (???) on the front page, but given that Mac ports tend to be, what, 3 years behind PC release, and Mac gamers are kind of used to that, if they were really trying to cater to Mac Gamers they'd bring any and all games to our attention however they could. I know that at times I am so desperate for new Mac games that if Steam announced a port of "E.T. for the Atari 2600" I'd be pretty psyched.

I'm not arguing with you--it's not like you're in charge of it or anything--just noting that a very simple database tweak (I guess) would probably boost their sales by some small amount.

It was featured in a block on the Mac page as well. Don't worry, it will come around again.

They put the release date as when it's released on Steam. It makes a little bit of sense.

-Kaptain Brawe: A Brawe New World is currently 75% off, at $5.00

I've played a little bit of the demo that you can download, and it's seems to be a cool old-school-type adventure game - like they had in the early 90s.  If you're a fan of those adventure games, it's worth checking out the free demo.

I guess if someone's world revolves around the dictation of Steam, then yeah... makes sense, since that person never would have known about the game until it was released on steam. =D

-Back to the Future: The Game is currently 60% off, at $10.00

For those unfamiliar, this is an episodic adventure game and the $10 includes all 5 episodes of the whole game.

Uh, well, it's the release date. If you're wondering when Steam got something, that's the date you'd want to know. If you're wondering when a game was available somewhere else, you could probably find that out somewhere else.
