You kids have disturbed my 999-year nap with all of this Marathon talk.

Nope, it totally sucks, that's why they're releasing it for the iPad 17 years later...by now they hope people have forgotten how bad it was. Oh, wait....

It was the best. I never had such a good time getting killed (again & again & again) in a game before. I also never realized how good other players can be. Some of those players are just awesome. And some of them are rumored to visit the IMG Forums occasionally.

I was reading through AppAdvice and notice the "First Mac FPS Is Back" and was happy (understatement) to read about Marathon's iPad release. I checked out the iPad App Store, saw 141 ratings with a 4 + average, and thought '1994', was it that long ago that I purchase the series starter "Marathon". I hope that the iPad incarnation  will be as much fun as the original was. I've not had a lot of success with similar FPS shooter control layout, but as soon as I finish typing this I will be going "somewhere in the heavens..."

Playing: Shifted to console play (Xbox 360 and PS3) but return to Mac when all screens are in use by the family – Diablo II.

No you FOOL!!  They are waiting for you!!!

I downloaded this last night and played a little this morning, up to the first save term.  The controls are going to take a LOT of getting used to.  It appears I can either aim and fire, or run and aim, or run and fire, but not all three at the same time which sort of takes the wind out of my vidmaster sails.  I was disappointed that films weren't incorporated, but then how could you possibly share them, because that was the fun of it and it ain't going to happen.  Interesting that the screen seems larger than the original screen, without the heads-up display, just the little rectangle that showed the view through the battle helmet.  Was 1994 THAT long ago?

Anyway it was a hoot to be back onboard the UESC Marathon with my old friends the big mean murderous Pfhor who wanted me hanging on their trophy room wall.  I walked up to the first Pfhor and stuck out my hand and gave him a big friendly smile and he gave me a nut shot with his shock staff.  <falsetto>I guess I'm just going to have to kill them all again.</falsetto> I said.

Yeah, the controlls are somewhat bad IMO also.. Later levels are going to be mean!!

But what do I care.. I've still managed to die 4 times just after getting the assault rifle.. Maybe I should go back to that regeneration thing on level 1, so I don't start level 2 with -0.12 life..

You guys act like you haven't played marathon in years or that it doesn't exist on the Mac any more. ;) If you are playing at home and have access to the Mac there's no reason to forego your good controls for the iPad version is there?   Plus if you check the pfhorums you may stumble upon something interesting. I play a bit of Marathon on my Mac almost every day with Aleph One.  To wake up I play a mod I created based on my Hell Hole map.  Cup of coffee, a little Hell Hole, and I'm wide awake.  I want to play the iPad version just because it is Marathon.  I'll figure it out or make do with the crummy iPad controls just for the challenge and novelty of it.

Durandal was released last night.  I can only assume that Infinity is not too far off.  I agree, though, that Myth would make a much better iPad game.

I played through the first 33% of Marathon 1 on my iPad, while I was on summer vacation.

The controls will probably be wonky, but it can't be any worse than the original Marathon's mouse controls when it shipped (you old time Mac gamers know of what I speak).

When there's a multiplayer version, I'm going to be on Frost's team. Well, except he doesn't seem to actually need a team...I mean, what's the point? "Hey look, it's Frost and His Merry Gang of Useless Hangers-On!" Or something.
