Bringing us back to Dirt 2...Do we have a specific date for the release in August?  Will it be on the Mac App Store, boxed retail, Mac Game store etc...?

There are 3 customers here chomping at the bit for this game and the multiplayer goodness which I hope isn't restricted to game ranger.

The Windows Live networking API uses a proprietary protocol and everything's encrypted so the Mac version cannot play against the Windows version. When at all possible we make the Mac version play with the Windows release however in this case due to the use of encrypted Windows Live! networking code DiRT2 will be Mac-Mac only.

Yeah, the VR3 has a really badly designed lcd mount. I wanted to mount a 32", but it has to be a really light one! They are now marketing the VR3 as compatible with the Samsung 6 series superlight LED's. I am waiting for the triple monitor stand that is supposed to be released before Christmas. But my 27" LED, when you sit and race is very substantial. I just love racing on the Mac.

Can you guys insert new multiplayer code in the Mac version, so that when we are playing Dirt 2 against our Mac friends, nasty messages are being sent in the background to Windoze Live servers and M$ executives?

We try and stay away from using the "Low Orbit Ion Cannon" method it tends to be seen as anti-social and unhelpful to DOS attack the company you are licensing games from! :)

It's unfortunate in this case GFWL has stopped Mac/PC DiRT 2 gameplay but when we can (like in Borderlands) we do support Mac/PC so this does not mean every GFWL game will be effected.

I echo that comment -- I hope it'll be on the Mac AppStore, because it takes FOREVER for any of the iStudios (authorised Apple distributors) here to get it : (  When it's out, I'm gonna want it (despite having D3 for my ugh... Windoze on Bootcamp).

So GFWL even managed to worm its way into LAN play? Sigh.

I thought that multiplayer middleware like that handles all multiplayer in a title whether it be local or internet. So if you remove it\replace it it affects both local and internet.

Yes you can buy it direct download from the Feral Store and others including MacGameStore and Mac AppStore. We have it on pre-order on our web-store right now ;)

Depends on the game but yes that is the case for DiRT 2.

We are close to having concreate news, in fact this is a short post as we are flat out on sorting the final details. And yes Lion did have a few side effects that delayed the release.

Since you're planning on selling DIRT2 on the Mac App Store, I'm curious whether Apple saying they will soon require all apps submitted to the store implement sandboxing causes any problems for games? Games seem to be pretty self contained so perhaps implementing sandboxing isn't too hard. Does sandboxing cause compatibility problems with Snow Leopard or can one build still support both platforms? Will sandboxing be available if purchased outside the Mac App Store whether digitally or physically? And will sandboxing be implemented on older games as they are brought to the Mac App Store and will patches be provided to bring this security feature to existing owners of older games?
