Hey Everybody,

I am new to the forums and seeking some Mac Gaming advice. I've been looking for awhile for a mac war strategy game that is very in-depth strategy wise. Years ago there was a PC game called Gettysburg, it took everything into account, troop style, leadership, landscape of the terrain, basically everything a real General would take into account when devising his strategy. Since moving to Mac I have not been able to find a similar game in the years I've owned a mac, and luckily stumbled across these forums and was looking for some advise.

It doesn't have to be a realistic strategy either, game styles like Starcraft would work, as long as it has some planning into it rather than mindless clicking.

Thanks to everybody's advise in advance.

-Nick

Hi Nick, welcome aboard.

I could recommend virtually everything from Paradox, especially the Hearts of Iron series, since they have a strong focus on the warfare.

Or Civilization IV.. :) Or Myth II maybe.

And now, time for some Legend of Zelda.

Probably most Paradox titles would do you well, as they have enourmous depth, wether you prefer WWII strategy with the "Hearts of Iron" series, or prefer middle ages in "Europe Universalis" or even Roman Times with "EU Rome". They have a lot of depht and it will take quite a while to fully understand the game and all the options.

I love the EU series so can second that. And HOI: 3 plus the expansion Semper Fi has plenty of depth. We're also getting a Mac version of Combat Mission: Battle for Normandy which is shortly due for release (demo currently available) which has plenty of scope.

However Rome: Total War (with Rome Total Realism Mod) is my current favourite :)

Battle for Wesnoth is a pretty deep freeware SRPG with a lot of importance placed on terrain and time of day (units have alignments, and receive bonuses/penalties during day or night depending on their alignment) and intelligent planning and tactics. It's not as in-depth as Hearts of Iron or Europa Universalis, but it's a lot more approachable, and has a thriving community and online multiplayer. If you've played Ogre Battle and enjoyed it, you'd probably like Battle for Wesnoth.

Hello everyone, I have a big announcement to make:

Friends, family members, casual acquaintance, and every other type of all-around awesome person in my life: The thing I've been telling you about forever has finally happened.

The MythStarter Kickstarter project has now gone live. This is the real deal!

http://www.kickstart...ter/mythstarter

We (our development team) have 15 days to see if there is enough interest out there in reviving this amazingly fun, physics-heavy war game for people to donate to the cause of making a new one.

Oh, so I want money, do I? Well before you stop reading, I implore you to read the next part, it's really kind of cool (it's my favorite part):

If you decide to donate money to help get a new Myth game made, but we don't reach our goal: Guess what happens? You get COMPLETELY REFUNDED. That's how all kickstarter funding projects work.

That's right, nobody loses money if we fail to reach our funding goal. You decide you can spare 10 bucks to bring Myth back to life, and it works, then you RULE and already paid for your copy of the game. But if we fail? You get your 10 bucks back. It's really that simple.

oogabooga, while this definitely looks interesting, I think you'd be well advised to consider what your first commenter (Seamus) has to say. I'd also be interested in how (or if) you acquired rights to Myth from Take Two.

I agree. Though you'll probably get some support from this forum for this picture alone: :P

It's too bad the Magma community is full of angry people and politics.. I tried posting there but got a very bad response. I think they dont like the idea of anyone else having any control over Myth. I want nothing more than to include people from the community because there is talent there, but everything I say to try and make peace or be inclusive is met with derision.

I appreciate that you guys here are giving us the benefit of the doubt. Tomorrow's looking like the day we will probably post the first update. Until then here are a few things we've been working on. Enjoy!

You won't find that here. The only things we argue over here are Call of Duty, Windows, and who pays the extortion racket for last month's bar tab. Occasionally someone might start some politics, but then the people who argue over guns quickly shoot them and the thread gets deleted.

Well...no...the truth is that we spend a huge amount of time fighting bitterly over whose turn it is to change tBC's litter box.  The fact that this war has raged for years with no resolution may explain the excessively high level of smelliness.

I remember that from the Myth community when they were all at Fileball in The Mill section.  I guess anger and Myth go together like small and pox.  Perhaps you should make a very very VERY angry video and they will stop tearing at each other's throats to turn to see who the new cool guy is.

I'm pretty sure OogaBooga is talking about the community politics, not governmental politics.  At least, that was my impression of the Myth community.

Psh, I'm voting for The Deceiver. He totally gets more done than The Watcher, and he doesn't serve up so much Crow as Soulblighter.
