Project Magma, a group of fans dedicated to keeping the Myth game series up to date, recently announced the release of Myth II: Soulblighter version 1.7.2. The update includes a variety of improvements, bug fixes, and optimizations for the fantasy war game.

Myth II 1.7.2 Final is now available:

Myth II Version 1.7.2 is the latest instalment in the 1.7 series of updates, bringing massive performance improvements, numerous bug fixes and several new features to the game.

Below are some of the highlights of the 1.7.2 update:
  • Massive OpenGL optimizations, especially with detail textures (2x - 5x as fast on modern hardware)!

  • New DirectX10/11 rendering backend!

  • New event-based input system that guarantees every character typed will be registered.

  • New preference to automatically save multiplayer films.

  • Elimination of up to two ticks of baked-in latency in the Myth net code.

  • Overhead map zoom level will now be saved between games.

  • Fix for the endless "Waiting for other players..." dialog.

  • Type-to-seek functionality for the new game, recordings and saved game lists.

  • Restored custom plugin images in the single-player new game dialog.

  • Added new high resolution icons.
In related news the 2011 Myth World Cup tournament is currently accepting sign-ups.

The tournament structure will be slightly different from the previous years to spice things up, so check out the rules section for more information about things. Registration will be handled via the forum, not on the site. I will update your registration information on the site once you have provided it on the forum. I will also update your team images and such to the site once you provide them on the forum first.

If you are interested in helping out with the tournament, let me know! Please also note that you don't have to register here on the site, but rather at the forums! You won't see any ads if you use Firefox. Spread the word! Tell your friends and tell them to tell their friends about mwc!

The Myth 1 in-game tutorial was fun, I used to try to make the tutor angry with how inept I was.

If only every game was maintained as well as this. Plenty of more recent and better-selling games can't manage a UB or even critical bug fixes.

I wish a group like 'Good old Games' could get their hands on it to redistribute...

come on, Take Two, you know you're going to do anything with the license!
