I just stumbled across a new project from Fractal Softworks, Starfarer, that should be of interest to all you old Escape Velocity fans out there. Also, if you enjoyed Star Control 2 or the Space Rangers games, check it out. It's in alpha stage right now, but you can preorder it and get access to it now for half the final price of $19.99.
I preordered and started the alpha. Very promising. Give it a look see.

You can't beat EV: Nova 
Does look interesting though and the gameplay video's did were pretty! I'd be interested in your feedback as to how it compares once you've got your teeth fully into the Alpha.
