Another new racing game has shown up on the Mac App Store.  Jetlane appears to be similar to the Wipeout or F-Zero series of futuristic racers.  Again, though, no demo is available.  I don't understand how these developers think people are going to shell out money just to find out if the game is good or not.  I'm not going to waste my money on an unknown - even if it is only a few dollars.

Anyways, this game was developed by a small indie programmer.  Hopefully he'll make more Mac games.  Here's the developer's site, if anyone is interested.

CORRECTION:  There is a demo for Jetlane !!!!!

http://musegames.com/games/jetlane

That's a website for playing Jetlane in a web browser (if you have the unity web player plugin), but if you scroll down near the bottom of the page where it says "Play Elsewhere", and click on the icon for "Mac Version", it downloads a zip file with the demo.

Get it!!  Get it now!!!!  (Matrix reference not intended, but now that I think about it...)

Crap, nevermind.

The file is not a demo.  You need a musegames.com account to activate the downloaded app.

Apparently, you need to create a free musegames.com account (with an email you have access to).  Just register on their site and then you can play the first nine levels of the game.

So, I repeat:  Get it now!!!!

I'm the developer of Jetlane. Thanks for making a thread about it and I hope you like the game.
I am indeed a small indie developer and Jetlane is my first published game.

So I'm looking for feedback and will try and update Jetlane when I can.
I'm working on adding bots and better gamepad support right now.

If there is a writer willing to do a review just private message me for a promocode.

Yeah, computer opponents would definitely be cool.  The one gripe I have is when the hover-car goes through a loop-de-loop.  Switching to a first-person perspective is disorienting for the player.  Also, the loop-de-loop slows the speed of the hover-car way down and the movement is choppy (I believe the choppiness due to the physics of the game acting up, and not the framerate).

Other than that, it's a very fun game.
