It would be news if Asypr hadn't accidentally posted it on their website 3 weeks ago.

CAPS LOCK KEY STUCK! EVERYTHING WRITTEN IN CAPITAL LETTERS NOW! LOWER CASE LETTERS ENDANGERED?

;)

Anyway, that was somewhat an open secret. But good to see it's official now.

Here's how it goes: when Civ n is released, nobody likes it, and everybody looks back nostalgically at Civ n-1. So just wait for Civ VI, and Civ V will be great!

(The reviews I've seen say it's pretty good, despite flaws. So y'know, like most every other one. Me, I'd totally have it already if I could afford to lose that many hours of my life.)

(Also, I'm happy to see Aspyr branching out and porting to my favorite platform, the Media Access Control address. Good times.)

I don't think the press release mentioned anything about the Mac version and Steam. Any more info on this?

Wait did that underlying tone there imply that Take Two said: "Suck it Aspyr, GameAgent is dead, you can port this only if it goes on Steam"

Just because the game utilitzes Steamworks does not mean it will be on Steam. Look at the Mac version of SupCom2. Steamworks ≠ Steam.  Civ V for PC is available on other download services, like Direct2Drive. Civ V will still probably be available at Game Agent.

Yes, it will:

The game will come in both boxed and digital flavors, both of which will be available for preorder in the next few weeks at GameAgent.com and other retailers.  Though we can’t say anything specific just yet, we’ve got some great preorder perks planned for GameAgent shoppers!

So it does require Steam?  I wonder if having the Windows version will allow me to download it for both, or will I have to pay twice?

Probably for online multiplayer as I figure that's what Steamworks is used for here.

This and they use SteamWorks for DRM. I guess that'll mean no one will have to keep the disc in the drive, even when you buy the boxed version.

It doesn't have Steam Play and isn't distributed on Steam, so no.
