I'm just playing a Rocketfight game online, blasting aliens, flying with my jetpack, minding my own business... when out of freaking nowhere a drop pod falls out of the sky and lands on my head while I'm jetpacking and trying to rocket an Elite. Then, to add insult to injury, a pair of Grunts come out and party on my corpse!





This is for all the guys who are sick to death of being betrayed at the end of Firefight games the moment the Game Over screen comes up and their sociopath teammates can get away with it.

My doucehcannon teammate tries to shoot me in the back at the end of a Sniperfight on Courtyard, but fails massively. First he fires his fuel rod at me, but I jump over it and it bounces off the ground and off into the distance. Then he tries to shoot me in the back, but my drop shield goes up at the same instant and the fuel rod blows up in his face. Still undeterred, he shakes off the explosion and charges into the drop shield after me... and gets pasted by my gravity hammer and sent flying over the edge of the ramp right as the game ends.

Remember, kids, teamkillers never win.

And finally, living up to Eric's quote in my signature. A demonstration of proper shotgun tactics. Or, how one man with a shotgun can stop the entire blue team from capturing the flag by killing them all in the middle of their own territory in the span of 1 minute. Includes a comically sneaky part about halfway through.

Cuz I'm too po' for my own channel! Seriously though, I haven't a clue... when I click on myself my channel comes up?

EDIT: When I sign out and click on myself it says unavailable. Hrm. Maybe something I have set in my prefs... I'll see if I can fix it.

EDIT 2: For some reason my channel was set to invisible. Fixed it.

Epic Halo story expanding

Damn, last night was a good night! Not only did I get a Skullamanjaro (film here), but I got the tastiest double kill imaginable, played Frost the SAM, and thanks to that lovely little Banshee on Spire, I got just under the wire and got the Like Mike weekly challenge (at least 30 kills in one game) less than a minute before the game ended and 6 hours before the challenge ended for the week. Insane plasma double kill. I had two guys trying to beat me down on Elite slayer so I threw a plasma on one and then armor locked and they both went up. I was quite proud of that split-second creative solution.

Frost the SAM. The other team was laying waste to us with aerial vehicles on Spire and I got sick of that after they wrecked my Warthog, so I set up a SAM site in the rocks with amusing results. I was about where that central dead tree is.

Ooh, those little sons of bitches! I got them! After seven years, I got them!

A little background: At the end of 2003 I won over fifty thousand bucks playing Tau Ceti Hold 'Em with a group of grunts on the Halo. Biggest haul ever. Only those little suckers never paid up. They spent it all on hookers and blow, then hijacked a dropship and escaped as Halo blew up. I never saw them again, UNTIL TONIGHT! I got a tip that those little bastards were in Epsilon Eridani and tracked them from there. When they came in for a landing to hit the local bar, ohhh, I was WAITING FOR THEM! Naturally, bullets were too good for settling such a debt, so I shot the gun off their dropship with a rocket and then took 50 large out of their hides with a gravity hammer.

on a mostly-related note, after watching the excellent short film/commerical "Deliver Hope", i went back and watched all of the Halo universe live-action stuff i could find and was surprisingly pleased with the vast majority of it.

the "Believe" campaign was particularly well-done, especially the in-universe "Making of the John 117 Memorial" video and the live-action shorts featuring the war vets. (Even if they did screw up the Chief's actual rank a bit lot)

I also very much liked the "We are ODST" video.

I have to admit I frequently wondered why, in the Halo games, people kept sir-ing an MCPO. Does not compute.

Granted I only know one chief (who is the Navy's biggest Mac proponent, BTW!), but I don't think he'd respond too kindly to an underling calling him "sir."

its more that - his actual rank, as stated by Bungie, is Master Chief Petty Officer of the Navy

There's a farking MASSIVE difference.  One is a high-ranking PO; the other is the highest ranking enlisted man in the entire Navy.

Also, having finally started playing Reach online, i just got the absolutely most hillarious commendation during a Rocketfight i've ever seen...

"Yoink!"

... to get a Yoink (it proclaims loudly.. YOINK!".. you have to kill an enemy WHILE a team-mate is in the middle of assassinating it.  

When i can figure out how to share the video, i will.

The Navy used to call this rank Chief Warrant Officer.  My dad was a Chief Warrent Officer 3.  He refused to take the promotion to the last rank of 4 because he would have gone into the next tax bracket and would have taken home less.  He was called "Sir" and saluted by all enlisted men, and he had all the privileges of the rank of Officer including the Officer's club in which he and mom would party.  CWO's were highly respected by commissioned officers, they were the equivalent of being the "Admirals" of the enlisted with a huge amount of experience in actually running the Navy.

as a Navy nerd, you're a little off here.  

MCPO of the Navy is still an enlisted man; a warrant officer is a higher rank. equivalent to a junior comissioned officer.  

A warrant is similar to a full comission; it is given to an enlisted man when he needs to have equal footing to at least the junior comissioned personnel he is serving with.  As they are usually given to enlisted men with a long service record, they are rightly given more weight than the relatively junior comissioned officers with whom they are equivalent.  

MCPO of the Navy is almost like hitting the lottery - there is only one at a time, ever.  It is harder to achieve this rank than making a flag rank as a comissioned officer; that's why it irks me that they got it wrong.  

that's mostly US Navy there - a lot of other navies dont have any equivalent to MCPO of the Navy or its other equivalents; and a lot of other services use Warrant Officers differen't or not at all.

Navy still has Warrants (I think the Air Force is the only branch that's done away with them), but they weren't and aren't the same as Petty Officers, who are senior enlisted and have entirely different jobs whereas Warrants are in between enlisted and commissioned officers in the hierarchy although functionally equivalent to junior officers and generally sporting far more specialized expertise and experience. Equivalency to something that should be pretty familiar:
