Frictional Games has released a demo for the upcoming first person survival horror title, Amnesia: The Dark Descent. The game is described as a title which will take players on a "thrill-ride through the depths of madness and explore the dark side of human emotions." It follows the tale of amnesiac Daniel, on the run from a horrifying foe in a mysterious Prussian castle.

The game begins with Daniel awakening in a desolate Prussian castle, without any memories to explain his situation. A letter written by himself, reveals that the amnesia is actually self-inflicted. The mysterious message urges him to seek out and kill Alexander, a man residing deep below the castle. Hunted by a dark shadow, Daniel can see no other way out than to trust his former self. If he is to save his life and mind, he needs to find out what it is all really about. It is his only hope for salvation. A dark descent awaits.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a first person horror game with focus on immersion. It is a game where atmosphere and story comes first.

Looks promising. It is not completely unlike Penumbra, but the controls have been somewhat optimised. So I guess when you liked Penumbra, you'll definitely like this.

Looking forward to its Wednesday release. There'd be little point for me to download the demo seeing as I've pre-ordered the game already.

Yep - I pre-ordered too. It's a nice touch that they let you download game directly and also provide Steam access too :)
