TransGaming has announced the release of Dragon Age: Origins - Awakening, the first expansion for Bioware's popular fantasy role playing game. In the add-on players take on the role of Grey Warden Commander as they rebuild the order, resolve conflicts with "The Architect", and decide the fate of the darkspawn. Awakenings features an expanded world, five new potential party members, and a range of new creatures to battle.

From the Makers of the 2009 RPG of the Year, Dragon Age: Origins, comes the first official expansion pack.

For centuries, the Grey Wardens - the ancient order of guardians, sworn to unite and defend the lands - have been battling the darkspawn forces. Legend spoke that slaying the Archdemon would have put an end to the darkspawn threat for centuries to come, but somehow they remain.

You are the Grey Warden Commander and have been entrusted with the duty of rebuilding the order of Grey Wardens and uncovering the secrets of the darkspawn and how they managed to remain.

I love this game! I started again from beginning and then i will play The Awakening

This is such a good year for Macs.

I think that's a better price than the PC version when it first came out. Be aware though, this expansion lacks the polish of the original game. There are numerous typos and grammatical errors and the voice acting isn't too hot, but it's still fun.

I just ordered the PC version for GBP 6 from HMV last week. Too bad I'm working in the US atm so I can't play it yet. Oh well hopefully next weekend.

Does the expansion introduce any new content into the main game itself - or do you literally just bring your old character into what is effectively a completely separate module/DLC ?

I will be buying for sure but if it doesn't bring anything to my existing game it'll wait until I'm closer to completing the main story arc with my current character

It doesn't update the old version. You can either import your old characters or start a new one.

The expansion is pretty much separate from the main game. The plot takes place after the events of the main campaign, so it's meant to played after you finished the original story. You might not get everything that's happening when you play Awakenings before finishing Origins.

Yeah, true. I haven't completed the expansion completely yet (under Windows – I haven't found too much time to play such a time consuming game as DA in the last time), but it's obvious that the expansion isn't as fleshed out as the main campaign. Locations are smaller and often not as detailed, some quests are rather ridiculous (sometimes you literally have to run only a few dozen metres to reach the destination, have a short conversation and the quest is completed) and due to the reduced ability to interact with you party members they pretty much lack depth (although there are some rather interesting characters among them). Still, it's fun to spend more time with the character you lead through 70+ hours of the main game. If only Oghren weren't the only former party member from the main campaign to turn up again...
