I am looking to start a casual (ie. playing a turn every couple days) play by email game of Civ 4.  If anyone here in the IMG community is interested, please sign up below with your preference for Leader and Civilization name.  Suggestions for map and option settings are also welcome.  Please PM me with an email address that you don't mind sharing with the play group.

Requirements:
This game will use the Mac version of the Civ 4: Beyond the Sword expansion using the 3.19 patch.  

Proposed game settings:
Map: Pangaea
Size: Huge
Climate: Temperate
Sea Level: Medium
Era: Ancient
Speed: Normal
Shoreline: Natural
World Wrap: Cylindrical
Resources: Standard
AI Players: Noble - random civs - enough to bring the total number of civs up to 10?

Proposed game options (the items listed are 'checked' items, other game options not listed options are 'unchecked') :
City Flipping after Conquest
Unrestricted Leaders
Choose Religions
Permanent Alliances

Victory Conditions:
All enabled

Players and their chosen Civilization & Leader
Ranger Joe - England - Churchill
Badger2d - Inca - Huayna Capac
Sargiel - random - random
Janichsan - Japan - random
Dojoboy - Persia - Dairus I

I am cautiously interested.  Cautious, in that this sounds logistically difficult.  This would take literally a year to complete, even if we could actually maintain a full round of turns every couple days.  That's a long time to keep any given group of people committed to anything.

I've played several PBEM games.  You are right in that the length of time involved could wear on some of the players involved.  Fortunately, Civ 4 allows players to resign and the AI would take over.

OK count me in! I'd be happiest with a random leader & civ. What difficulty were you thinking of for any AI players we might end up with ?

Unless me living in a different time zone than most of you would be a problem, I'm interested. I'd take the Japanese.

No problems with the time zone issue. A great feature of PBEM is time flexibility. =]

It has been a while since I've played a game. I think that Regent difficulty may be appropriate to make up for the added difficulty of time lag (and my poor short term memory =]).  I'm thinking that we could play with 7-8 players on a Large map. As for numbers of AI players, I think we should see how many human players are interested and then fill in the rest of the slots with AI players.  If you have a specific number of AIs that you'd like to see, please let me know.

I would love to do this.. But I wont be online for the next 3 weeks, due to vacation... Maybe I can join you for the game in 2012..

Btw, is the Steam BTS version 3.19?

Depending on when you start, I'd like to join.. I'm in from around the ~5th of august. And if then, I'm Mehmed II (Ottomans) (Funny how you have to think in totally different ways when its multiplayer Civ, which I have never tried before)

Given how potentially long a game of this nature could take, delaying the start of the game is one option that I'm open to, but I'm not sure about the others.  I wonder if there a way to have the Ottomans play as an AI player while you are away? Is there a 'play my turn' option? I'm coming back to Civ after a long break.  Any feedback on this from others would help. =]

We can do a "play my turn," if there is someone he trusts.  

Oh, this is a pangea map.  I thought it was an archipelago map.  I need to change from the Dutch.  Give me Persia & Dairus I.

Well, since I'll probably only miss a few turns, I guess someone could do the first ones for me.. It's probably only going to be "Press build city", walk warrior around, and select the first discovery/city construction.. ^^

But if I don't get at least two gold spots in my capital, I'm going to blame whoever plays for me..

The initial exploration & discovery phase could take a while. =]

Problem. I've reinstalled Civ 4, Warlords & BtS and encountered a problem with PBEM. I'd been playing a game with a friend of mine who runs the Windows version and our game had been running for some time without any issues. Since my HDD failure I've reinstalled Civ 4 twice and am unable to load our saves anymore as it's telling me I'm running version 301 or older instead of 302....

I've tried reinstalling twice: -

1) Installed, Civ 4, Installed Walords, Installed BtS.

2) Installed Civ, 4, installed Warlords, Installed Warlords 2.13 patch, installed BtS.

Any suggestions guys ?

Did you patch BtS to 3.19?

That patch is available only here, as it seems.

Strange it doesn't reference that patch on the Aspyr site .. and not even in Macgamefiles!

Sargiel's post reminded me...I'll be running this on Windows.  Hadn't thought about the idea of whether cross-platform PBEM works, but it sounds like it does?
