Hiya,

I see aspyr has the whole civ IV up for download now, but to get civ, warlords and bts it's $90. Any idea if they'll bundle 'em into a downloadable boxset, like civIII?

As usual, I picked up the windows boxset for ~$50 like two years ago, but would much rather have it on my mac partition eh...

And, any thoughts on using game agent? Is this a pain in the neck - or just a dreamy game purchase experience?

thanks!

They'll probably release Civ IV Complete when they release Civ V.  I'm not too sure about game agent, but only up to 2 computers reaaally sucks.

heh - it's cheaper to buy the boxes from amazon (civ IV gold and bts), and no limit on installs, etc.

the game agent route just doesn't seem all that appealing: it costs more and punishes the customer with restricted use. now why does this recall discussions about digital delivery methods should be cheaper and better and... the only benefit i see is if a title isn't available elsewhere...

meanwhile, i continue to play the windoze version and wait and wait and wait for the mac civ IV 'complete'

Unless you play scenarios, you should just skip the Warlords expansion.

And now, time for some Legend of Zelda.

We're talking about Aspyr here, they don't generally do the most logical thing.  Why would they want to sell you the Civ IV Collection for $39.99 like it is on Steam?  That's just insanity and too customer friendly.

GameAgent is a joke.  The pricing is ridiculous and the DRM is horrid.  I'd suggest if you really want Civ IV and all the expansions to buy if off Steam for $39.99 and then buy a copy of Codeweavers Crossover Games and play it that way.  I run Civ IV this way since Aspyr originally abandoned the game after Warlords.
Advocate for consumer friendly DRM.

And now the Mac version of Civ IV Complete, with Colonization, is only $39.99 on Steam.  I don't know if this is the same version that Aspyr ported; there is no mention of Aspyr on the Steam page.  If not, Aspyr might be in trouble.  $90 for all four Civ IV titles from Game Agent, or $40 from Steam.  No contest.  We may finally start seeing Mac/PC price parity with the rise of Mac Steam.

Not sure where you're seeing that. I just looked, and Civ IV is $19.99, Warlords is $9.99 (which I might buy just so I don't have to insert the darned DVD any more), Beyond the Sword is $19.99 & Colonization is $29.99, for a grand total of $80 for all 4. No signs of Civ IV complete for the Mac.

The complete bundle is featured quite prominently on the main Steam page.  It's also displayed on the page for each individual component.  But here it is.

So, if I own Civ 4 and Warlords from Aspyr, I expect adding BtS from Steam would probably be a no go?

I think so.  The price for the individual items is about the same, though, so there's no need to shop around unless you're buying the package.

Thanks for the heads-up. I think I'll be getting this. 4 games + no discs to put in the drive for $40 is well worth it.

If anyone tries Colonization on a first-gen Core Duo iMac, please let me know how well it runs.

The specs say Core 2 Duo, but I'm hopeful...

I wonder if you could add those two to Steam (it's a menu option), and then play?

Unfortunately I think that's not possible:

Has anyone purchased this from Steam yet? I want to find out how performance is compared to the Aspyr version. I hope it's not just ciderized, but it would seem very odd if 2k games re-ported it.

Unless it's a game that lets you input the serial number to Steam and download that version. This was possible previously with some games like Prey, but I don't know if it would be the case with Civ.

I'm downloading it right now, and I have the physical Aspyr version somewhere as well, but I never installed it on this machine for some reason. I'll see if I can compare them at some time.

Just started the Civ IV: Colonization from Steam and the first thing I saw was an Aspyr Media License agreement... so I guess that answers that :)
