Apologies if this has already been posted on another thread, but here's another huge title we might get via Steam later on:

DICE "investigating" Battlefield: Bad Company 2 on Mac

I will be curious to see if Steam for the Mac results in someone asking us to bid on doing a Mac conversion for the first time since the middle of last decade.

Bad Company 2 on the Mac would be great. I've pre-ordered it for Windows (still haven't got it, grrrrrr), though, and probably won't re-purchase it on Steam until it's price is dropped. I'm a bit concerned regarding performance, though. My MBP can't run the beta properly in Windows even when using the lowest resolution and having every graphics setting on low. And the performance under Mac OS is usually slower than on Windows. There are very few current Macs that run the game well enough, and even fewer that can run it in HD resolution with medium/high graphics settings...

You can add games that are available on Steam but you haven't purchased there to your Steam library - which then behave as every other Steam game. Works at least for games with serial numbers.

I made some research and found this list of supported games. Bad Company 2 is not in that list, unfortunately, but for games that *are* supported that's a wonderful feature! No need to insert the DVD or use a no-DVD krack!

This has been discussed more in this thread:

http://www.insidemac...showtopic=39095

Try to avoid making a new thread about the exact same thing, thanks ;)
I should read my own guidelines from time to time to avoid such embarrassment...

According to the News Topics and what you can do sticky... it is allowed to start secondary topics about things that are also covered in the news topics. However it is urged to go to the news topic (or a prior topic), instead of starting a new topic about the same thing. But, you were in the right... the valve official announcement you posted about was new news that an img nes topic had not yet posted about (only a pre-post).

So, carry on. My bad.

Oh goodie...now I don't feel so silly about posting this thread :D

That being said, I've been heavily thinking about picking up Battlefield 2 for the PC...will wait and see now if a Mac version comes along instead. And hopefully its native, not Ciderized stuff. I respect well enough what Transgaming is doing, (an effort to put more games on the Mac) but I never hear many good things about the ports, either officially (reviewers) or here on the forums. Valve's native efforts are spectacular.

On a sort of related but-not-related note, I've almost forgotten about the Mac announcements of Gears of War and UT3. Not meaning to start a discussion, just saying I hope its still coming. In my impression and personal excitement level, what Valve is doing here is the first real 1st class effort to come along since....well ever? (in the last several years) Maybe that's too extreme, but they aren't just porting a game or two, its all their Source titles, + Steam, and having already experienced those PC side I know its very solid and enjoyable. Not to discredit Aspyr and Feral and so on, they do great work as well. I just get a feeling Valve's thing could very well start a avalanche of future mac gaming goodness.

It's an EA game, it will be ciderized. EA is all about minimal effort for maximum money. (Although they have been getting better.)

It was a big surprise to see this announcement. I'll just say on this thread that I'm looking forward to the release and will be happy to sign up with steam to get Mac version of classics like Half Life etc :)

Bring it on ;)

There's a new interview about Steam for Mac on Joystiq. While most of the things we already knew, they also clarified that Steam/Source for the iPhone/iPad won't happen. At least not anytime soon.

Ah yes, saw that this morning in my RSS feed. I have to say its funny how *non* mac sites (Shacknews, Destructoid) pick up the news faster than the actual mac sites. I guess its since they are bigger and more connected.

That being said I like how they say [in the interview] Steam for mac is "the biggest event in Steam's history"

Go Valve :D

You can now apply to be a beta tester for the Mac version of Steam. You need an existing Steam account, though.

I find it kind of funny that Steam for iPad is even brought up. It seems like it would be mostly redundant. (I wish we could standardize on OpenFeint or Plus+ or something though.)

Well, a game like Portal would be quite nice on the iPad I guess..
