So, what's the deal with the non-cider version of X3: Reunion that was supposed to be available 3 weeks after the release of Terran Conflict?  I cannot find any confirmation of its existence on the VP site, and their forum has one lone, unanswered post inquiring about it.  Has anyone heard anything?

Excellent question. I was wondering that myself a while ago.

Well the native re-port of X3 Reunion is finally released. Interestingly despite removal of the Cider layer, the system requirements have increased from a 1.83GHz processor to 2GHz with support for the nVidia 7000 series being dropped, which seems like a growing trend. No doubt the 7300GT and 7600GT drivers are missing extensions, compared to even the X1600, but I wonder what is it that Cider/CrossOver is doing to work around it since X3 Reunion and Source Engine games work fine in those environments on the 7000 series, but seem to break when ported natively.

Seriously my GPU has become a curse .. ;) I can't wait for the next iMac update to finally ditch my 7600.

But thanks for VP for putting in the effort to bring a native port.

How does the new native engine run? I'm on a 2.4 GHz iMac w/ an ATI HD 2400 (128 MB). Will X3 run with a decent framerate w/ all of the bells and whistles turned on?

My Macbook Pro with the NVIDIA 8600M 512 runs it just fine with everything nearly maxed.  I say go for it.
