A Linkedin profile from Valve Software's Chris Green reveals that the company is apparently "REALLY looking for senior Linux + Mac engineers." As of yet there has been no official announcement of any upcoming Mac related projects. Valve is known for its Half-Life series as well as its Steam digital download service.

Didn't they pull this leg with the PS3?
Just because they're looking for mac/linux engineers doesn't mean they're actually going to release anything for those platforms.

My most likely guess is that they're looking at bringing the Steam platform to the mac and linux, which would make them a fairly decent packet of cash.
After all, if they can't be arsed to port their games to the PS3, then they won't bother to do it for the mac or linux, where the gaming install base is going to be much smaller..

So steam, if they can be bothered, nothing more.

Great. Now they jump on the Mac wagon, just before releasing HL3. Too late guys, I already got a ciderised version of HL2. :P

And now, time for some Legend of Zelda.

Valve already was looking for Linux programmers more than a year ago, if I recall correctly. It's not as if anything has come out of this yet.

Steam for the Mac is a few months away. Valve will also be porting over their games to the Mac. This will help breath new life into Mac games.

If it actually happens, then kudos to Valve for finally having a little sense. Neither OSX or Linux has any even vaguely decent online distribution system. Valve can quite easily dominate the space in both, and should've gotten to it, oh, about 5 years ago...

I might re-buy the Orange Box too, if that makes it and is cheap.

Now maybe they'll start being sensible about the PS3 too...

Wow. I wonder, if this does happen, does that mean that when we download the mac Steam client, will we be able to download the Mac versions of the Valve games that we own? Or will Valve make us buy the mac versions separately?

The links provided are all a year or more old. As much as it would be great even *just* to see Valve port Steam to Mac and Linux, let alone port their entire portfolio of games over, I'm not holding my breath at this point. When I see a little more evidence, then I might start to catch my breath.

Not that I'm complaining if Valve comes to Mac, but it's interesting that they are finally looking at OS X at a time when everyone else seems to associate Apple gaming with the iPhone/iPod Touch and now the iPad. Maybe they are hedging Steam as a cross-platform computer game/software distribution point in the event that Apple decides to use the ubiquity of iTunes and iTunes accounts as a storefront for computer games/software.
