Hey,

I'm trying to remember the name of a tactical fantasy game I used to play a few years back. It was sort of cutesy and I believe it was played on a hexagonal grid (not Battle for Wesnoth). You controlled little soldiers and wizards and the goal of the game was to win several small battles. It was turn based, battles were sort of similar to Avernum or the gold box games. I remember one of the characters had a ridiculous hat and in one of the battles you had to fire a lightning bolt into a lake to defeat the enemy.

I don't think it's very old, most likely for Mac OS X and probably freeware. Does anyone have a clue?

Thanks,
Moebius

This sounds very vaguely familiar... any idea how old this game was? If it was early 90s I think I may have played something like this, but maybe not. Combing memory banks.
The Big Endian
Cypher - 4 x G5 2.5 GHz / 6.5GB RAM / WDC 250GB, ST 1.5TB / 7800GTX 512MB / MacOS 10.4.11, 9.2.2
Spike - Cell 3.2 GHz / 256MB RAM / ST 320GB / RSX 256MB / GameOS 3.15, YDLinux 6.2

When there's a multiplayer version, I'm going to be on Frost's team. Well, except he doesn't seem to actually need a team...I mean, what's the point? "Hey look, it's Frost and His Merry Gang of Useless Hangers-On!" Or something.

It's not Zatikon. I think it was an early OS X game, possibly something from uDevgames (I have no idea though, just guessing). Since there's no website with all the uDevgames games, I can't check. :(

Styrateg, maybe? http://styrateg.rakeingrass.com/

I usually notice when an RPG comes out for OS X, and the closest thing I can think of to what you mentioned is Wesnoth, which you already said wasn't it.

Although, Wesnoth has had its graphics change significantly since its creation. It used to be a lot more cutesy than it is now. Is it possible you mean an early version of that?

I know it's not Wesnoth, and it's not Styrateg either. The game didn't really have a story, you were just presented with a map (I think), and then you could click on a country and it would take you to a small battlefield. Another thing I remember is that one of the missions was called "Hurdles". I'm also about 90% sure it was freeware.

Any other ideas?

I found it! It's called "World To Conquer" and is made by Northern Bytes. It was entered in uDevgames 2003.

Thanks for the help!
