Can I take the wireless air port card out of an iBook G4 and put it in the eMac? They are pretty close to the same specs 1ghz, both can run OS 9. What about the ram, is the ram the same? I don't know a good website to get this info.
The ibook is dead, the emac says the empty ram slot is DIMM0/J1600. Also under air port card it says no information found.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I got the Air Port card working today, but I still don't know about the ram.

The eMac uses DDR PC2700 RAM, and iBooks used either PC2100 or 2700. If you have access to the iBook RAM I'd take a peek at it to see if it says one of those two numbers on it, if its PC2700 then your golden.

However to my knowledge the eMac G4 only has 2 RAM slots, and so I'm not sure if you needed matching RAM back then, but you might need to have the two sticks be the same in both slots (same meaning a matching pair). I'm not entirely sure.

My emac uses PC 133 DIMM, its spendy. I paid $60 for the computer, and most places want around $50 for a stick of 512. I realize I didn't post any specs about the eMac. Its a 1ghz ATI graphics as they are know. It seems like apple was in a lot of transition in their hardware at the time, because no one seems to know for sure what the hardware is without looking at it. there are versions of the emac that had the original airport card as opposed to the airport extreme that mine takes. on and on. Dude at the local (not corporate) apple store told me i should bring the 60 pound hunk of computer down the store so he could tell me what kind of ram it has, he didnt even ask me to look in system profiler. Which when we finally figured it out cost as much as the whole machine they don't even have it in stock!

A great resource is MacTracker. Its a database of every mac ever complete with what type of RAM it uses, CPU speed, HDD size and all the BTO options.

Using it, you can find out everything you need to know, in tandem with System Profiler (incidentally, that guy you talked to sounds like a complete tool, not having you look there).

I would recommend getting some more RAM, by the way. You can barely do anything these days with less than 1GB of RAM, which is what the emac maxes out at. On the plus side, there's nothing special about the RAM, so you can get it from anywhere. Ebay, Crucial, Kingston or whoever. So tak a while to shop around and see the cheapest you can dig up. It's not going to be massively cheaper, though, since that kind of RAM isn't made as much anymore, and cost more to produce...
Polytetrafluoroethylene to my friends.

Macbook Pro - C2D 2.4Ghz / 4Gb RAM / WD Scorpio Black 320GB ( 255GB OSX v 42GB XP ) / Geforce 8600M GT 256Mb / 15.4"
Cube - G4 1.7Ghz 7448 / 1.5Gb RAM / Samsung Spinpoint 250GB / Geforce 6200 256Mb

We won! Apple offer the 17" with a matte screen! Well... at a price...

I have a 2003 model emac and I have ram at pc100 and pc133. It is a 1ghz model with 32 megs of video ram ati if I recall.

I'm sure they updated the emac slightly to a 1.2 ghz and 64 video ram shortly after I bought mine.

Either way pc100 or pc133 ram should be just fine.
