CIV IV Gold edition - a question about multiplayer

Me and my gf have decided to buy CIV IV Gold edition - IF the option to play against each other, on the same computer, is in the game...? We've been trying to read about it different sites on the net, but all we're reading is that it says "multiplayer mode included" and I guess that could mean a lot of things.

Yep, Civ IV lets you do hot seat games. Also PBeM, LAN play, and internet play.

Basically it's the opposite of a modern Blizzard game...
