I don't know about you guys but when it comes to puzzle and action game this year Trine is pretty much at the top of my list and of course I'd love to play it on my Mac. This wasn't a possibility until Crossover Game 8 came along. CXG8 finally pushed CX to a sufficiently recent version of Wine to support Trine but there are some issues with getting it started to get it running so I thought I'd share them here in case someone wanted to try the game out. The version of the game I was playing was the retail version on DVD but the game is also available from Steam and other online stores.

Now to get the game running you need to create a new bottle in CXG and then install the following things into it:

DX: directx_9c_redist.exe (Note this is a self extracting archive. After extraction install DXSETUP.exe):
http://www.microsoft...;displaylang=en

PHYSX: PhysX_9.09.0814_SystemSoftware.exe
http://www.nvidia.co..._9.09.0814.html

Windows Media Player 10:
http://www.microsoft...lDownloads.aspx

After installing these you can install Trine, now to make the game playable you must disable AA. Leaving AA on I got 5-10FPS on a 2.5GHz C2D W/8600GT/256mb but without it 35-50FPS @ 1440x900. To disable AA, launch trine_launcher.exe and click on advanced and set AA to disabled. While you are at it set the game to a native resolution and texture quality to very high for bling effect.

Here are some screens from the game running:

It's RPG / puzzle /sidescroller / platformer. The RPG elements are very light... as in - like BioShock was a FPS / RPG... that kind of light. :)

edit: .. how the H E double hockey sticks, did I get to 400+ posts?

That's pretty damn impressive.
Considering that its £17 on the PS3, I might have to check it out via crossover...
Polytetrafluoroethylene to my friends.

Macbook Pro - C2D 2.4Ghz / 4Gb RAM / WD Scorpio Black 320GB ( 255GB OSX v 42GB XP ) / Geforce 8600M GT 256Mb / 15.4"
Cube - G4 1.7Ghz 7448 / 1.5Gb RAM / Samsung Spinpoint 250GB / Geforce 6200 256Mb

We won! Apple offer the 17" with a matte screen! Well... at a price...
