There's a tendency that has developed for my cursor to occasionally blink to the top right corner of the screen. Needless to say this is extremely annoying when playing any sort of action game, and I have no idea where to start in fixing it.
The occurrence rate is hard to judge accurately. It's common, but not at impossible-to-do-anything frequency. I'll hazard a guess at about once per fifteen minutes.
The problem is consistent in OS X and in Boot Camped Windows XP.
The hardware is an '06 iMac with original mouse, the so-called mighty mouse. (gag. what a stupid name.)
Any ideas appreciated!

ugh. You're not still using that god awful mouse are you?
Get yourself a decent Microsoft, Logitech or similar mouse.
Problem solved.
But seriously, it sounds like something screwy is going on with the mouse itself. Check the red LED for dirt, check the area the mouse is being used in too and if it persists, then I guess you should look into getting a new mouse.

Polytetrafluoroethylene to my friends.

Hm. Nothing obvious on the LED. I guess I should try using a mousepad. I had a vague hope that there was some software tweak that I could do somewhere, trash some bugged system file or something. I'd love to get a new mouse, but I am currently too poor to consider it.

Because its going across both OSX and Windows, its incredibly unlikely that you'd be getting the same problem on both...
Try that mouse mat and see how it goes.
As for getting a new mouse, it doesn't have to be anything special. Id personally rather have a £12 mouse from Logitech over the Mighty Mouse.

Yeah, I probably would too if I had a chance to try it out. As things stand right now I'm only getting 12-15 hours of work a week and that would be £12 less of food to eat.
