Hi Everyone,

Stumbled upon a problem while playing Farcry 2 last Sunday and heres what happened...

Started up the Mac into XP and loaded up my last saved game.
The game locked up and I received an error as follows:

Display Driver Stopped Responding
The nv_4disp display driver has stopped working normally.

I thought ok maybe I need to update the driver for the Nvidia 8800GT so I downloaded it and did the install but still I had problems.
I phoned Apple on Monday and explained the problem to them and they sent me out a new graphics card to try. I installed it tonight and rebooted into XP and still problems persist with very slow response and broken images. :(

I'd better point out that this did affect the Mac also but things now seem ok with the replacement card installed.

I'm not too sure on what to do next so can anyone offer some advice please?

Cheers
Flyman

hmm, peculiar

You could try updating your bootcamp drivers, and then wiping any GPU drivers with any driver cleaner program and then installing new ones from from Nvidia.

Do you have this issue in any other game?

I've just un-installed the Nvidia drivers again and done a safeboot to run Drive Sweeper only it wont let me enter my password! - Any idea why?

Like there is no opportunity to enter your password? or your password does not work? I not familiar with Driver Sweeper.

Can you get back into windows? If so I would backup for saved games, and then reinstall windows. I know it isn't the most graceful way of solving a problem but its worked for me many a time on my homebuild whenever I have some obscure problem

Hey got it fixed!
Done a restart, removed the Nvidia drivers and installed Bootcamp drivers.
Re-loaded the Nvidia drivers again and so far so good :)

You can uninstall the game, and all files related to it, and then reboot your machine, and reinstall the game.

Well I've just installed Windows 7 and Far Cry 2 on a new drive.
I was originally playing it on XP so can anyone tell me if the saved game files are compatible and if so where do they need to be installed?

I also have a folder called Benchmarks and a file called GamerProfile but I dont know where these go either!

Sorry to be so dumb on this, but these files were salvaged from a failed HD by a friend and I wasnt with him when they were extracted.

Many thanks in advance

They should be under:
C:/Documents/My Games/Far Cry 2

But just to be sure, you might as well load up the game quickly, create a new user, start a quick game, save and quick and go a-hunting for anything FC2 related.

Good Luck!
Polytetrafluoroethylene to my friends.

Macbook Pro - C2D 2.4Ghz / 4Gb RAM / WD Scorpio Black 320GB ( 255GB OSX v 42GB XP ) / Geforce 8600M GT 256Mb / 15.4"
Cube - G4 1.7Ghz 7448 / 1.5Gb RAM / Samsung Spinpoint 250GB / Geforce 6200 256Mb

We won! Apple offer the 17" with a matte screen! Well... at a price...
