I wonder if that Metal Update is already included in macOS 10.12.1, which was just released today.
Or will that be coming with 10.12.2 in one or two more months?

Most likely 10.12.2. Feral probably had a good idea 10.12.1 would have been out this week even if Apple didn't tell them, with the Mac event.

Last year 10.11.1 was out on the 21st and .2 came out the first week of December, so it could still be on track for before the end of the year.

I was being cheeky. But I found the detail of the statement odd...usually companies don't reveal Apple's plans, however minor. They could have just said the Mac version needed more time.

OpenGL had "growing pains" all its life.

*ducks

Both Metal and OpenGL are giving me issues with WoW Legion on a 10.12 iMac with Intel Iris Pro 6200 hardware. OpenGL is liveable - missing water textures mostly (as in - no water), but Metal is severely broken and unplayable; the screen fills with enormous, flickering black triangles.
You must gather your party before venturing forth.

How could Feral be so certain that it will be the case this year, and that Metal will receive the fix they need? Unless Apple told them. But that would be covered by an NDA.

Feral is preparing to launch a Multiplayer Service for their Mac App Store games next week.

This should be perfect for a game like Evolve, if it finally is coming to the Mac.

Feral accounts launched in autumn 2015. I guess they want to reach a broader audience in the future and maybe even offer their services to competitors/colleagues like Aspyr. Make Game Center great again by replacing it with a proper product.

We have been sneakily testing our MAS multiplayer service on you in the form of Feral Accounts, yes! Next week, we launch it with a whole bunch of events and details. We're even giving it a name...

This is why your company keeps you as second string on the marketing team.

I suggest the name, "Feralbob Spongepants".  ::sitting next to Thain Esh Kelch::  Hey Thain, what's the coach got against us anyway?

'Total War: Warhammer' will be out next week on Linux only for now, the Mac version seems to be delayed.

Yes, afraid so. Basically, Total War: WARHAMMER for Mac will be using Metal, and getting that ready to support such a demanding game is taking longer than we anticipated. Thanks for your patience, everyone, it will be rewarded!

Why? The language is new? It doesn't have the features you need? Metal is weird? Apple unsupportive? Drivers?

We're all curious about the current state of Metal.

I can't really go into the nitty-gritty here, but we need to get Metal ready to support the sheer complexity of a game like Warhammer. That kind of thing takes a moment. :)

Hmmm... I can't really blather on about it, because I have an NDA to think of! We're not at liberty to go into detail; Metal is Apple's API, after all.

Think about it this way. As devs it's our job to engineer these games so they work with the API. Metal is young, and still adding features, so this means it's more time-consuming for us than if it were a more mature API. As Metal continues to improve, things will get faster. But for now we need that extra bit of time to bring you Mac versions of Total War: WARHAMMER and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided that we're completely chuffed with.

Yeah, it wasn't a really serious question. It would be nice if Apple would be more upfront about how they are improving Metal, but it's Apple, after all...

I was surprised when you did mention you were waiting on a Metal update by the end of the year for DX, as I figured that'd be bound by an NDA. I guess Apple gave permission. How generous of them! /s.
