Another way is to force the user to answer a written question, like
"write 'i love img' without spaces" or
"write the four first numbers in 42525362" or
"what's the colour of the sky"
and then change the question if the bots figure it out.

Such as "How do you spell BOOBLESS on a calculator? (hint, try holding the calculator upside down)"
Of course, the answer is 55378008, as every good schoolboy knows. Alternatively, you can go with 5318008, 58008 or 0.7734 (where the calculator's 4 looks like a h). I can't think of any others...
Macbook Pro - C2D 2.4Ghz / 4Gb RAM / WD Scorpio Black 320GB ( 255GB OSX v 42GB XP ) / Geforce 8600M GT 256Mb / 15.4"
Cube - G4 1.7Ghz 7448 / 1.5Gb RAM / Samsung Spinpoint 250GB / Geforce 6200 256Mb
We won! Apple offer the 17" with a matte screen! Well... at a price...

Ha ha ha, that would be something quite good, and most people would know it, if not everyone (as you said).

Hmmm, know what you mean. It was weird looking at the forum through the day and seeing the threads there.

Zerohedge has a nice system, word based math problems e.g. "what is three plus eight". But a reCaptcha will most likely do as well.
I would think that the spambots can handle math problems if they are that easy.
But maybe: "what is three times eight written backwards using numbers"?
or
"what is three times (six minus two) times four divided by four"
or "what year was Apple formed" / "what is Mac OS 10.6 also called" and a link to a page with an article that has the answer (for example wikipedia).

Not unless they are specifically designed for that spam prevention measure in mind (They aren't AIs). The measure I'm referring to would construct the problem from random X and Y number and + or - and display via Javascript so that it can not be directly read by the bot unless someone builds it specifically to spam IMG (don't think that's going to happen).

I actually didn't know about the whole "BOOBS" = "80085" thing until my 20s. I remember my cousin showing me, and I responded with, "What's so funny about eighty thousand five?"
"It says 'boobs.'"
"Ah.... ha."
Apparently I missed the window where such things were funny.

When there's a multiplayer version, I'm going to be on Frost's team. Well, except he doesn't seem to actually need a team...I mean, what's the point? "Hey look, it's Frost and His Merry Gang of Useless Hangers-On!" Or something.
