I had low expectations for this one based on the mediocre reviews, but at the halfway point, I gotta say I'm pleasantly surprised. No, it's not the best game I've ever played (the difficulty level seems to be moderated for the console crowd), but it's definitely not the worst; I'm having more fun with Wolfenstein than I ever did with Bioshock. In any event, the Nazi occult stuff is so waaaaaay over the top that my only comparison is to night-at-the-drive-in B-movie schlock: mindless cotton-candy fun devoid of any meaningful substance, but tastes oh-so-sweet. If you're bored and need something to do while waiting for all the delayed AAA titles to drop next year, check it out.

I've sneezed hard enough to do that but I really doubt that they all sneezed at the same time so my guess is that Pokémons did that.

That's some hard sneezin'!

As for the last screen, I did that to those hapless Nazi chaps. Or rather, B.J. did. :-)

I think it was the Officer's House mission, and probably the result of a grenade. Definitely NOT the particle cannon (yes, kids, there is a particle cannon, and it makes a wonderful noise) because, well, when you shoot Nazis with a particle cannon, there ain't even gibs left.

In any event, Wolfenstein apparently uses the SoF GHOUL system for enemy combat and kill animations. It uses damage location, so for example, if you land a shot on a Nazi's arm, he'll drop his gun for a moment and stagger around, then regain his composure and resume firing at you with his remaining arm. In one of the boss battles, the boss ripped a Nazi officer in half and threw his legs at me. Lulz!

Sweet!! it uses the GHOUL system? That's what SoF2 used! I had SO much fun with that because of it. Looking forward to this more now. I'm going to pick it up soon, maybe next month. :)

Don't quote me on that, just what another nerd told me. :-)

Definitely pick this one up. Almost finished, and it has been fun. Last night, I used one of my Veil powers on a group of Nazis. Everything asploded, and five seconds later one of the hapless elite soldiers literally dropped from the sky, unharmed (that's wicked hang time right thar). He then proceeded to hide behind a crate and continue firing.

Wolfentstein is peppered with little emergent gaming moments like this. Love it.

Wolfenstein's devs should be proud. Despite a worldwide cry of "meh!" from the media, they've managed to extract simply the best Zero Punctuation review of all time.(haters of limericks need not click the link)
Polytetrafluoroethylene to my friends.

Macbook Pro - C2D 2.4Ghz / 4Gb RAM / WD Scorpio Black 320GB ( 255GB OSX v 42GB XP ) / Geforce 8600M GT 256Mb / 15.4"
Cube - G4 1.7Ghz 7448 / 1.5Gb RAM / Samsung Spinpoint 250GB / Geforce 6200 256Mb

We won! Apple offer the 17" with a matte screen! Well... at a price...

Haters of limericks don't click the link,

There. Fixed that for you.

I've been holding off getting this for the PS3 because I want to experience Wolfenstein properly with a mouse and keyboard like Wolfenstein 3D and Return to Castle Wolfenstein before it, so I'm waiting till I get an x86 machine (perish the thought!), either a gaming PC or an Intel Mac.

My defenses are weakening, though... the Nazi demons call to me!

Bravo, tBC! :-)

Well, computers always have the last laugh, don't they? I can't finish the game because it crashes when I enter the Black Sun portal, meaning I can't complete the final boss fight.

But I'll have to worry about that much later, as both of my babies (yes, twins) will probably be born in the next 24 hours. As the Hurricane Center likes to say "final preparations should be rushed to completion."

Take care, guys!

Thanks!
I couldn't think of a decent limerick to turn it into, but you did good.

As a treat, possibly my favourite limerick of all time, just for the wordplay at the end:

There once was a lady from Hyde,
Who ate a green apple and died,
While her lover lamented,
The apple fermented,
and made cider inside her inside.

The review is pretty funny, but depressing. I'm getting a sense that all our old, great FPS franchises are being driven into the ground by folks without much imagination just trying to squeeze a few bucks out of those of us with terminal nostalgia. And the strategy works, 'cause I can't imagine not playing this game, even if everyone pans it.

Holy cow! Hope everything comes out all right. Get it? Get it? Hey if any of them come out like children of the corn or the spawn of satan then you have a whole forum of folks with the knowhow of fighting such creatures.

Anyway, premature congratulations, come back and regale us with stories.

Congrats! The following comments/advice are offered under the assumption that these are your first children. If not, I apologize for telling you things you likely already know. However, if you haven't had twins before, don't presume that it's only twice as hard as having one baby. It's more of an exponential increase in work, mostly because you can't hand the baby off to your spouse and get some rest. You've got to play man-to-man defense until they're about 8 months old (then you can switch to a zone until they're both walking, at which point, you'll be switching in and out of man-to-man and zone).

As the parent of twins myself, I don't envy you the first few months. Do your best to remember that it will get better, and no matter what, get as much help as you can - not just with the babies, but with cooking, cleaning, shopping. For about the first 8 weeks or so, my wife and I had to write down on a whiteboard what day it was, and update when we'd last fed them. We would lose track of when we'd last showered, brushed our teeth, etc. because taking care of ourselves was way down on the list of priorities back then. I can honestly say the first 10 weeks were the longest of my life, mostly because it felt like I was awake for 90% of it.

Refrain from punching people in the nose when they say, "Oh, enjoy it. It goes so fast." It doesn't start to go fast until they're about 7-8 months old and (mostly) sleeping through the night. Of course, the first real smile that you get from them (as opposed to the "I just passed gas" smile or "I'm falling asleep" smile) is probably the second most amazing thing you'll ever see (the most amazing thing being the delivery itself).

Hope the delivery went well and everyone is healthy and as happy as circumstances and sleep-deprivation will allow. :)

Conspiracy theories, rumours about Marathon IV and Magic Pink Flying Ponies.

:pinkpony:

Oh, wait, there is one - but still not conspiracy theories and rumours about Marathon IV.
