Just got myself an ipod touch a few days ago, and I noticed this newcomer last night on Touch Arcade's new page. For five bucks that's quite a bargain. Bought it this morning.

It's funny that the full game actually runs better than the Lite version. What's that about? Not that I'm complaining. It is very similar to the DS version, but with a significantly improved interface: a greatly enhanced visual and audial fidelity, far more easily accesible info on terrain, buildings, units, etc., an easier to use interface in general, and I am most thankful for being able to zoom out in this version. The battle animations seem to be exact carbon copies from what was seen on the DS. Good enough.

Anyway, I highly recommend this version. :)

After playing around with the Lite version a bit (I was worried about the reports about the horrendous performance), I have to say I like the iPhone version. The performance really is not stellar, but – for Pete's sake – it's a bloody turn based strategy game, not a shooter. The performance is good enough (the battle animations are really choppy, though).

What I'm not too fond of are the more cartoonish and slightly primitive terrain graphics. I liked the DS version better on this behalf. I also noticed the complete lack of unit animation on the map. The tilt controls in the civilisation selection screen are also somewhat unnecessary and tacked-on.

Still, it's Civilization and barely marred by the aforementioned peeves. Bought. And recommended.

(Damn, I notice I'm using my DS less and less. There's hardly a reason left to do so...)

Downloaded the lite version and ... didn't like it. No problems with performance or anything, just not the sort of game I'll play on a hand-held device.

Yup. But I'm old enough to have had my fill of it in arcades, wasting countless hundreds of rolls of quarters on the original.

I've downloaded Civ Rev Lite and given it a quick spin - see below for my initial conclusions.

First let me say that I'm a big Civilization fan - I can see my original Civ, Civ II, and Civ III boxes from where I'm sitting right now. Remember building the Trader unit and moving it ever so slowly to an opponent's city to build trade routes? Good times.

Civ Rev Lite left me flat, I didn't get the majestic sense of building a civilization and directing its destiny. Am I missing something? This is based on about ten minutes of play, should I give it another go or just give up on the game?

Give up. Simply give into the urge to buy Orbital and kiss your life away.
