EDIT: Post is in the correct forum, thank you.

Just wondering if there any fans of Oni around. If so, I have some things I would like to share.

Recently Anniversary Edition Oni for the Mac was released by a community of Oni fans. Anniversary Edition Oni is a collection of mods or improvements for Oni. New characters, weapons, smarter AI behavior, glass breaking moves, a modified melee system are some of the improvements available.

Also, Omnigroup's port of Oni has been patched (unofficially) to add support for Intel Macs, bug fixes, AI particle dodging. It restored a number of BSL functions and variables that allows Mac users to run almost all the custom scripts written for the PC.

A sample of what has been done:

And a preview of how the textures can be improved:

Great work, I loved Oni but stopped playing it when I moved to Intel macs. I believe I still have it on the HDD somewhere so I'll give it a go.

I had just about turned to stone here... there has been very little news of interest, but this one woke me up.

Am downloading and installing; will post more after I've played a bit.

Thanks for sharing - I remember being so excited when I bought this game when it first came out. I'm glad to see that Oni isn't dead yet!

EDIT: Is the version of the OS X app for Oni included with the Anniversary Edition really a universal binary? The app file still is listed as PowerPC.

rampancy: No, its not an universal binary, its just a patched PPC version that runs on Intel Macs. Unfortunately, until there is an "official" release, we won't have a universal binary. Unless someone has the source code for Oni lying around... :-)

I really don't know what you're talking about - contracts and rights are (thankfully) nothing to do with me :) Easily the most boring part of gaming.

So any comments about Anniversary Edition? What do you guys think of it? Anyone interested in modding the game, such as the 3D characters, textures and so on?

As with other fan-led efforts to revive or maintain old games, I find that there really isn't a lot of clearly outlined information at all about Oni AE: namely, what it does, what's been changed, and what it offers. Yes, there is a changelog, but it's all highly technical information that isn't easily understandable by end users. The two download links on the wiki are dead, when I tried to download the Mac build a few days ago; I had to Google it and download it off of ModDB.

For instance, how do I download and install high-res textures, as what you showed in the OP? There's no info on that at all, and again I had to resort to Google and a search of the Oni community forums to try to suss that out, and even still I'm not even sure if that's where you got the textures you showed. What do the mods do? There's not a lot of clear info on that on the wiki, only the very sparse description offered through the mod installer.

Granted, I'm a fairly advanced user, and putting it all together wasn't significantly more difficult than say, D2X-XL or the Doomsday Project.

rampancy: I appreciate your comments, what you stated is true. Since there are only a few working on the AE project, documentation has lower priority. On the wiki, there are links to various mods, but they include our discussions on them.

The issue with the dead links was due to ModDB being updated and the links to the files were changed and the wiki wasn't updated when you visited them.

If you want to see the hi-res textures, it was found in this thread: User created packages for Anniversary Edition:
http://oni.bungie.or...pic.php?id=1047

So, what is your reaction to actually playing Anniversary Edition Oni?
