So I go to install my digital download copy of COD 4 on my new MBP, the only Mac it will be on, and the serial number doesn't work. Aspyr tells me they can't or won't help and to contact Digital River. Digital River tells me to contact Aspyr. Heckuva job Aspyr. Last time I buy one of their digital download games or anything from Aspyr for that matter. In the age of the internet treating your customer like this is not smart. I'm going to post this on every Mac related site I can think of and thats quite a few. Here is the e-mail from Aspyr and the e-mail from Digital river.

It's not aspyrs fault for a hack-job companies faulty serial number handler. Don't go blaming the wrong people. Blame the store you bought it from... not Aspyr.

Send another message clearly stating that the serial key you received on purchase does not work to allow the game to be played. Be concise, but be complete, and send the message to both parties.

Looks like a classic case of passing the buck.
I can see Aspyr's point of view, since they've passed off the game agent store to digital river to run, and so also handed over serial keys etc. etc. which DR then distributed. They're the ones with the receipts and records, not Aspyr.
On the whole, I say you need to pester DR more. They're the vendor, they're the ones who have the records, so they're the ones who you need to barrage with emails.

The new serial number is working. Aspyr also contacted me to make sure it is working. I'm assuming they saw my ant here plus I emailed them and digital river at the same time. I wonder if I came up against the install limitations on the digital version and thats what caused my serial number to stop working.

Did you never mention that to Digital River? How many times did you install it?

I told Digital River and Aspyr that it had been installed multiple times on my iMac and then later on my MBP but that it was only on my MBP now. I don't know how many times. I guess four or five total.
Can it not be installed on both simultaneously? That would be a nuisance, if not.

I'm personally not a fan of the idea of downloading A-list games because of the idea that something might happen to my hard drive and the bother of downloading again and, as is many times the case with downloaded software, you have to pay a small fee to re-download. For this reason I prefer having a disc sitting in a jewel case... ergo my question:
What's Digital River's policy, if you happen to know, on re-downloading?
TIA

See the Game Agent's FAQs: you can only download your purchase once, after that you have to pay an extra fee for the "Extended Download Service" which is again only valid for 2 years. That scheme is the same for all Digital River services.
