Surprising indeed. I have the original game on Xbox and it's a really good game. The Dark Athena addon didn't exactly get much praise from critics, but the original is included and should be ace.

Wow! Very cool. I'm a big riddick fan. Hope it comes out soon, and actually runs well in terms of optimization. :)

Exactly. Since the original was never ported now we'll finally see it come over to Mac.

Well this looks good, at least we have another game coming to OSX. Would the original be free, or at least close to it?

From what I heard it was kind of the other way around. The original was a quiet success on the XBox and because Microsoft couldn't get the XBox 360 to be compatible with it through emulation profiles, the developers decided to do a high-def remake of the original game for XBox 360 and PC. The new missions are kind of the free add-on to progress the game, although it's pretty much the same either way you look at it. They both are integrated together.

Since Virtual Programming is doing it and they've dropped their only Cider port in X3 Reunion in favour of a native re-port, I'm guessing Riddick will be a native port too. The graphics don't look that amazing despite the modern remake, but the system requirements seem pretty high with the game appearing to take advantage of 3 or more cores. Perhaps it's not the most efficient game. PC minimum requirements call for a HD 2600XT minimum, so this may be the first Mac game to drop support for the X1600, HD2400XT, and HD2600Pro which eliminates quite a few MacBook Pros and most iMacs. If the HD2600Pro isn't supported, the 9400M would probably be out too, since I'm pretty sure the HD2600Pro is faster. Hopefully the PC minimum requirements were just being cautious. Either way, I guess it's a good thing it looks to be a native port.

Escape From Butcher Bay comes packed in with Dark Athena; and it is remastered with the new engine.

Yeah it started off as a HD remake with a couple extra missions to sucker the die hard fans, but as time went on it expanded further and further till it was about the length of the original. Not as good, but still worth playing is what Ive heard in many places.

I had the impression it was actually a brand new game, so I guess Yahtzee's review wasn't so far off the mark after all.

And yeah, I did post the ZP review of Assault on Dark Athena; I kinda found it funny, if only for the potato chip jokes he makes at the expense of the title.

Riddick is an awesome sci-fi character. It pains me to see Vin Diesel doing crap car chase films when he looks so good with the ol' shiv and goggles.
