Guess where he's working now.

Interesting, but disappointing news for RTS gamers everywhere.
What about RTS gamers who own iPhones?
If Apple are starting an in house game development team, and Graeme Devine is leading it, then chances are itll be working on a strategy game (RTS or TBS or even 4x are all possibilities). At least for his first game, Apple wouldnt be pushing him to develop something outside of his comfort zone, otherwise he wouldnt have taken the job.
Personally, I think that TBS and 4x are more likely than RTS, since on a mobile platform they are far more accessible and easier to exit quickly.

We won! Apple offer the 17" with a matte screen! Well... at a price...

His past work involves a lot more than just RTS. Given Apple, I'd think it would be more likely that the position would relate to general platform development than in-house game development, but I guess we'll see.

My guess is that no dedicated RTS gamers view iPhone as a serious RTS gaming platform. Don't get me wrong, I think iPhone is a v. good product overall, good for casual gaming, etc., but I see this guy going to iPhone only as a negative, though not necessarily for him.
With average 3-month development times for iPhone apps/games, I'm sure his team will be able to produce a number of fun, short-lived, time-killers, that earn enough to make the venture worthwhile.

Um, thats why I talked more about TBS and 4x type strategy games. Dont forget that Advance Wars was one of the most popular games on the GBA and its latest showing on the DS was also very strong.
And nobody is right, he was a designer on Quake 3 and has experience with portable platforms and shooters.
Its entirely plausible that given the gaming themed push in Apple's recent iTouch and iPhone ads theyre looking to add some more meat to that statement of intent and Graeme is the man to lead that charge.

I think he also was the most experienced Mac developer at Id. He did all the G4 optimizations and greatly improved the Q3 engine. Glad he joined Apple, but I'd rather have him work the the Mac part of Apple instead of the iPhone.

If I remember right, he was the one who proved Apple's market spin to be correct when he got the Mac OS version of Q3 running a good deal faster than comparable Windows machines once it actually had properly Mac-optimized code.
What a difference he is compared to old Fatty over at Valve. Good to have Graeme Devine at Apple now, maybe he can make some good inroads for gaming.

When there's a multiplayer version, I'm going to be on Frost's team. Well, except he doesn't seem to actually need a team...I mean, what's the point? "Hey look, it's Frost and His Merry Gang of Useless Hangers-On!" Or something.
